Droplet-based assay system

System for performing a flow-based assay. The system may comprise a droplet generator to produce an emulsion including droplets in a carrier fluid. The system also may comprise a thermocycler including two or more temperature-controlled zones and also including a channel connected to the droplet generator for receiving the emulsion. The channel may form a single-pass continuous fluid route traversing the temperature-controlled zones multiple times, such that droplets passing through the channel are thermally cycled. The system further may comprise a detection station downstream from the thermocycler and configured to detect a signal from the droplets after such droplets have been thermally cycled by passing through the channel.

Dropper dispensers and methods of using the same

Embodiments of the invention related to dispensing devices (100), and more particularly to dispensing devices having a dropper or dispenser (200) associated with a container (900) full of product wherein the dropper (200) may be charged, separated from the container (900), and then used to dispense a product therefrom.

INTERSTITIAL PRINTING OF MICROARRAYS FOR BIOMOLECULAR INTERACTION ANALYSIS

A flow cell applicator system can include a flow cell applicator including multiple flow cells to deposit multiple substance spots on a deposition surface, and a positioning assembly to position, to dock, and to unlock the multiple flow cells relative to the deposition surface. The substance spots can be depositable when the multiple flow cells are docked on the deposition surface. The flow cell applicator system can also include a spot deposition identifier operably associated with a processor to: record data related to substance spots as applied on the deposition surface, identify data related to substance spots previously deposited on the deposition surface, or both.

Single piece droplet generation and injection device for serial crystallography

A single-piece hybrid droplet generator and nozzle component for serial crystallography. The single-piece hybrid droplet generator component including an internally-formed droplet-generation channel, an internally-formed sample channel, a nozzle, and a pair of electrode chambers. The droplet-generation channel extends from a first fluid inlet opening to the nozzle. The sample channel extends from a second fluid inlet opening to the droplet-generation channel and joins the droplet-generation channel at a junction. The nozzle is configured to eject a stream of segmented aqueous droplets in a carrier fluid from the droplet-generation channel through a nozzle opening of the single-piece component. The pair of electrode chambers are positioned adjacent to the droplet-generation channel near the junction between the droplet-generation channel and the sample channel. The timing of sample droplets in the stream of fluid ejected through the nozzle is controlled by applying a triggering signal to electrodes positioned in the electrode chambers of the single-piece component.

Micro-chemical mixing

A device comprising, a substrate having a droplet thereover, and an electrical source coupleable to the substrate. The electrical source is configured to apply a voltage between the substrate and the droplet using an electrode. The electrode has a first portion and a second portion non-symmetric to the first portion, the first and second portions defined by a plane located normal to a longitudinal axis and through a midpoint of a length of the electrode.

Dead volume-free fraction collection apparatus

An apparatus for collecting liquid fractions from a separation/reaction apparatus (1). A capillary (2) guides an extracted liquid fraction to a branching unit (3), a collection arrangement (4) carries a plurality of target vessels (5) receiving the liquid fraction from the capillary and a fluid line (6) is flow-connected to a fluid pump (7) and opens into the branching unit. The capillary and the fluid line each have outlet openings in the direct vicinity of one another at their end facing a target vessel such that liquid emerging from the outlet opening (2′) of the capillary transitions into the outlet opening (6′) of the fluid line. This precludes back mixing with earlier/later liquid fractions, precludes uncontrolled dripping of sample substance at the transfer point, speeds displacement of the target vessels in the collection arrangement, facilitates automation of the fraction processing procedure, and results in a more compact fraction collection apparatus.

CELL SORTER WITH PIVOTAL SCUPPERS

A compact sorting flow cytometer system is disclosed. The system includes a fluidics system having a flow cell and a deflection chamber in communication with the flow cell to receive drops in a stream of a sample biological fluid with one or more biological cells or particles and selectively deflect the drops in the stream of the sample biological fluid with the one or more biological cells or particles; and a droplet deposition unit (DDU) system in communication with the deflection chamber to receive the selectively deflected drops in the stream of the sample biological fluid with the one or more biological cells or particles into one or more containers. The DDU system includes a case or a housing with an open face surround by edges of the case, the case forming a portion of a containment chamber, the case having a top side opening aligned with the deflection chamber to receive the selectively deflected drops in the stream of the sample biological fluid into one or more containers in the containment chamber, a seal mounted around edges of the case, one or more hinges coupled to a bottom portion of the case, and a door coupled to the one or more hinges to pivot the door about the one or more hinges, the door when closed to press against the seal and close off the containment chamber from an external environment.

A method for evacuation of air in a containment chamber of a flow cytometer is disclosed. The method includes turning off a return fan in a first tunnel between an air conditioning chamber and a containment chamber; turning on an evacuation fan in a second tunnel between the air conditioning chamber and the containment chamber, the evacuation fan pulling air out of the containment chamber into the air conditioning chamber, opening a valve in an evacuation vent, the evacuation fan pushing air out of the air conditioning chamber through the evacuation vent into the environment; and continuously running the evacuation fan for a predetermined period of time to evacuate air out of the containment chamber.
