DEVICES AND METHODS FOR MOLECULAR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING
A hand-held molecular diagnostic test device includes a housing, an amplification (or PCR) module, and a detection module. The amplification module is configured to receive an input sample, and defines a reaction volume. The amplification module includes a heater such that the amplification module can perform a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) on the input sample. The detection module is configured to receive an output from the amplification module and a reagent formulated to produce a signal that indicates a presence of a target amplicon within the input sample. The amplification module and the detection module are integrated within the housing.
Self-Contained Nucleic Acid Processing
Instruments and methods for amplifying nucleic acids in a sample provided in a flexible, self-contained, substantially closed sample container.
MULTIPLEX POLYMERIC DYE DEVICES AND METHODS FOR USING THE SAME
Multiplex polymeric dye devices are provided. Aspects of the devices include a solid support, and first and second dried polymeric dye compositions distinctly positioned relative to a surface of the solid support. Aspects of the invention further include methods of making and using the devices, e.g., in analyte detection applications, as well as kits containing the devices.
Automated nucleic acid processor and automated nucleic acid processing method using multi function dispensing unit
In relation to an automated nucleic acid processor and an automated nucleic acid processing method using a multi function dispensing unit, processing involving extraction and amplification of the nucleic acid, can be consistently, quickly and efficiently conducted at a low cost with the use of a multi function dispensing unit, while saving user's trouble without expanding the scale of the device. The multi function dispensing unit includes: a nozzle head provided with a suction-discharge mechanism and nozzles detachably provided with dispensing tips; a container group having, at the very least housing parts for liquids and reaction containers for housing an amplification solution; a transfer mechanism that makes an interval between the nozzles and the container group relatively movable; a temperature controller whereby temperature control of the interior of the reaction vessels is possible; sealing liquids and/or sealing lids that are transportable to the reaction vessels using the nozzles, and which make the amplification solutions housed in the reaction vessels sealable within the reaction vessels; and a sealing control part that controls the suction-discharge mechanism or the transfer mechanism, such that the sealing liquid and/or the sealing lids seal the amplification solution within the reaction vessels when the housing of the amplification solution in the reaction vessels is completed.
ASSEMBLIES FOR STORING SAMPLE PROCESSING CONSUMABLES, SAMPLE PROCESSING INSTRUMENTS, AND METHODS
An assembly for storing sample processing consumables can include a cover and a tray. The cover defines a cover cavity. The tray defines a first plurality of wells. The tray includes a first portion received within the cover cavity such that a press fit is formed between a first tray surface of the first portion of the tray and a first cover surface of the cover defining the cover cavity, thereby releasably coupling the cover to the tray. Each of the first plurality of wells contains a sample processing consumable. The assembly can be used to load sample processing consumables into a sample processing instrument.
Arrangement in a capillary driven microfluidic system for dissolving a reagent in a fluid
There is provided an arrangement in a capillary driven microfluidic system for dissolving a reagent in a fluid. The arrangement (200) comprises a channel (102) for receiving a fluid at a first end, a valve (105) arranged at a second end of the channel so as to control a flow of the fluid to stop as it reaches the second end of the channel, and an actuator (108) for opening the valve (105) a predetermined time after receipt of the fluid by the channel (102). The arrangement further comprises one or more structures (106) for holding a dried reagent. The one or more structures (106) each has a width (W2) which is larger than a width (W1) of the channel (102), and the one or more structures are coupled to a side wall of the channel such that the fluid is allowed to enter the one or more structures from the channel, dissolve the dried reagent held therein, and diffuse back into the channel.
Instrument for performing a diagnostic test on a fluidic cartridge
A cartridge reader is configured to carry out a diagnostic test on a fluid sample contained within a fluidic cartridge. The cartridge comprises first, second and third collapsible blisters containing at least one reagent for use in the diagnostic test. The cartridge reader comprises an upper clamp, occupying a fixed position relative to the reader and a lower clamp, movable relative to the upper clamp, and wherein the upper clamp and the lower clamp are configured to receive and hold a fluidic cartridge therebetween. First, second and third blister actuators are mounted on the upper clamp, for aligning with first, second and third collapsible blisters of a fluidic cartridge inserted into the reader. The first, second and third blister actuators are movable relative to the upper clamp, between a first position in which the blister actuators are spaced apart from the collapsible blisters comprised on the fluidic cartridge received between the upper and lower clamps, and a second position in which the blister actuators depress the collapsible blisters, thereby collapsing the blisters and ejecting the reagents contained therein into a channel in the microfluidic cartridge.
Apparatus and methods for detecting analytes
The present invention provides an apparatus for retaining solid state reagents and/or for processing sample for a diagnostic test, where the apparatus avoids liquid “hang-up” that would otherwise result in loss of sample or fluid volume during sample transfer. The invention further provides diagnostic methods that employ the apparatus, so as to provide sensitive and accurate analyte detection.
