Microchip controlling system
A microchip controlling system comprises a microchip which is configured by adhesion of an elastic sheet and a plate/sheet member, and on which a flow path is provided as an inadhesive section between the elastic sheet and the plate/sheet member; and a microchip controlling apparatus comprising a valve mechanism which is inflated or deflated so as to control the flow path to be opened or closed.
CONFIGURABLE ASSEMBLY FOR RETAINING AND DISPENSING LIQUIDS
A configurable port fitting for a container, such as a bioprocess bag, has one or more O-ring grooves and two opposing locking arms (e.g., 604). The port fitting is mounted onto the container by (i) inserting one end of the port fitting into a port in the container such that O-ring(s) form seals between the O-ring grooves and the container and (ii) rotating the port fitting to engage the locking arms with two opposing retention clips (e.g., 506) of the container. Some port fittings are fixed port fittings that provide a fixed opening into the container. Other port fittings are port sizers that receive a valve connector that enables flow control between closed and open positions. Port fittings of different sizes enable different flow rates. Some port fittings (and other connectors) have a threaded tube barb that receives a threaded tube retainer that secures tubing in place over the barb.
Sample preparation device
A manually actuated chromatography device comprising a chamber for receiving a liquid sample, a pump with a metering valve, and a chromatography element, wherein the pump moves a predetermined volume of liquid from the sample chamber to the chromatography element.
Blood Sample Management Using Open Cell Foam
A specimen transfer device adapted to receive a blood sample is disclosed. The specimen transfer device includes a housing and an actuation member. A deformable material is disposed within the housing and is deformable from an initial position in which the material is adapted to hold the sample to a deformed position in which at least a portion of the sample is released from the material. A viscoelastic member is disposed within the housing between the material and the housing and between the material and the actuation member. The viscoelastic member is engaged with the actuation member and the material such that movement of the actuation member from a first position to a second position deforms the material from the initial position to the deformed position.
HIGH/HYPERVELOCITY PARTICLE CAPTURE AND ANALYSIS METHOD AND APPARATUS
In various embodiments a capture surface for capturing high velocity and hypervelocity dust and ice particles is provided. In certain embodiments the capture surface is comprised of a soft metal that is chosen to optimize particle capture efficiency, to minimize thermal degradation of chemicals and biochemical in the particles, and to present the captured particles to an analyzer for chemical and biochemical analysis of the particles and their contents. In various embodiments capture chambers comprising one or more such capture surfaces are provided as well as methods of use thereof.
Microfluidic system incorporating light absorbing materials
Systems and methods for light based heating of light absorbing sources for modification of nucleic acids through fast thermal cycling of polymerase chain reaction are provided. The system includes a polymeric fluidic device comprising one or more reaction wells. A first light absorbing material is disposed on a first support to define a reaction well and first and second ports are coupled to the reaction wells. The first and second ports are configured to allow input of a fluidic sample into the reaction well. A lyophilized reagent is pre-loaded in the reaction well. A light source is configured to illuminate the first light absorbing material. A first portion of light illuminated onto the first light absorbing material is absorbed into the first light absorbing material and is configured to elevate the temperature of the first light absorbing material to heat the fluidic sample within the reaction well.
MICROFLUIDIC CARTRIDGE FOR PROCESSING AND DETECTING NUCLEIC ACIDS
A microfluidic cartridge, configured to facilitate processing and detection of nucleic acids, comprising: a top layer comprising a set of cartridge-aligning indentations, a set of sample port-reagent port pairs, a shared fluid port, a vent region, a heating region, and a set of detection chambers; an intermediate substrate, coupled to the top layer comprising a waste chamber; an elastomeric layer, partially situated on the intermediate substrate; and a set of fluidic pathways, each formed by at least a portion of the top layer and a portion of the elastomeric layer, wherein each fluidic pathway is fluidically coupled to a sample port-reagent port pair, the shared fluid port, and a detection chamber, comprises a turnabout portion passing through the heating region, and is configured to be occluded upon deformation of the elastomeric layer, to transfer a waste fluid to the waste chamber, and to pass through the vent region.
Moisture and volatile organic compound content measuring
A thermo-gravimetric analysis system includes a chamber having an interior; and a sample crucible connected to and inside of the chamber, the sample crucible configured to hold a sample material. The system further includes a reference crucible connected to and inside of the chamber; and a metal organic framework (MOF) crucible connected to and inside of the chamber, separate from the sample crucible, the MOF crucible including an MOF material.
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR PROCESSING AND DETECTING NUCLEIC ACIDS
A system and method for processing and detecting nucleic acids from a set of biological samples, comprising: a capture plate and a capture plate module configured to facilitate binding of nucleic acids within the set of biological samples to magnetic beads; a molecular diagnostic module configured to receive nucleic acids bound to magnetic beads, isolate nucleic acids, and analyze nucleic acids, comprising a cartridge receiving module, a heating/cooling subsystem and a magnet configured to facilitate isolation of nucleic acids, a valve actuation subsystem configured to control fluid flow through a microfluidic cartridge for processing nucleic acids, and an optical subsystem for analysis of nucleic acids; a fluid handling system configured to deliver samples and reagents to components of the system to facilitate molecular diagnostic protocols; and an assay strip configured to combine nucleic acid samples with molecular diagnostic reagents for analysis of nucleic acids.
BLOOD TESTING SYSTEM AND METHOD
Some embodiments of a blood coagulation testing system include an analyzer console device and a single-use cartridge component configured to releasably install into the console device. In some embodiments, the blood coagulation testing system can operate as an automated thromboelastometry system that is particularly useful, for example, at a point-of-care site.
