Additionally, the magnetic separator may include first and second magnetic field generating elements mounted on opposing sides of the frame such that one or more containers can be positioned between the first and second magnetic field generating elements. According to another aspect, a workstation includes a work surface for receiving one or more containers containing the medium, a fluid transfer member, an automated manipulator configured to move the fluid transfer member, and a plurality magnetic field generating elements each being moveable between a position remote from the one or more containers and another position adjacent to the one or more containers.
METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR NON-COMPRESSED EVALUATION OF TISSUE SPECIMENS
The present invention provides a method and apparatus for evaluating the margins of a surgically-removed tissue specimen, such as a breast tissue specimen, to determine whether sufficient fatty tissue has been removed from around the lesion or cancerous point. The instant invention provides a solution to the problem of on-site evaluation of the margin sufficiency during the surgical procedure, in that it provides surgeons with an orthogonal view of all sides of the tissue specimen to be evaluated. The specimen evaluation device provides for properly-oriented examination of the removed specimen in a non-compressed, undistorted manner, both by visual inspection and through radiographic evaluation. Through this examination of the properly-oriented specimen, the surgeon may quickly and more accurately be informed of whether there remain cancerous cells in the margins surrounding the sample, which are meant to be free of cancerous cells. Upon evaluation of the margins of the removed sample, the surgeon may then make an on-site determination on whether to proceed with additional surgery or complete the surgical procedure.
Nanoliter Pipetting Device
Nanoliter pipette assembly. The assembly includes a housing containing a working fluid in a working fluid chamber therein and includes a moveable piston within the housing, the piston moveable by a linear actuation mechanism for contact with the working fluid. A tip portion is provided that includes a diaphragm deformable to engage an inner portion of the tip. It is preferred that the diaphragm have a projecting three-dimensional structure for direct contact with a liquid.
Coupling formation of a pipetting channel of a pipetting device for coupling of a pipette tip thereto
The present invention relates to a coupling formation of a pipetting channel of a pipetting device for coupling of an implement, for instance a pipette tip, or a laboratory instrument, laboratory tool or the like, thereto, wherein the coupling formation surrounds a pipetting channel section which extends along a pipetting channel axis which defines an axial direction, wherein the coupling formation additionally has, at its free longitudinal end, a pressure-imparting orifice into which the pipetting channel section opens and has, at its radially outer surface which surrounds the pipetting channel axis and extends principally in axial direction and in peripheral direction about the pipetting channel axis relative to the pipetting channel axis, a coupling projection which yields in the radial direction, which is characterized in that the coupling projection is provided so as to be essentially undeformable but radially movable on a spring arrangement which is elastic in radial direction.
Pipetting apparatus, pipetting container and method for the production thereof
The invention relates to a pipetting apparatus for pipetting laboratory samples into a pipetting container which can be connected to the pipetting apparatus, which pipetting container is in particular designed according to the invention, comprising a container side and a first connection section, by means of which the pipetting container can be connected to the pipetting apparatus, and comprising an information carrying device with at least one information section, which carries information, on this container side; the pipetting apparatus comprising an electric information reading device, by means of which information contained on the information reading device can be read when the pipetting container is connected to the pipetting apparatus, and which comprises at least one electric sensor device, which comprises at least one sensor section, opposite to which a measuring space is formed, wherein the sensor device is configured to read the information content of at least one information section when the latter is arranged in the measuring space. The invention furthermore relates to the pipetting container or adapter element, which can be used with the pipetting apparatus, and a method for the production thereof.
Multi-well wedge-shaped reagent container with auto-open capability
A multi-well fluid container that includes a container body is provided for use in an in vitro diagnostics automation system. The container body includes a first well having a first well size configured to hold a first fluid and an openable first well closure that covers a first well opening. The first well opening provides access to the first fluid in the first well when the openable first well closure is opened. The container body also includes a second well having a second well size configured to hold a second fluid and having an openable second well closure that covers a second well opening. The second well opening provides access to the second fluid in the second well when the openable second well closure is opened. The first well size of the first well is different than the second well size of the second well.
Adjustable test tube holder
A test tube holder is configurable to support a combination of a first test tube type and a second test tube type. The test tube holder has a base and a plurality of independently adjustable support members, each coupled to and rotatable with respect to the base between a first position, where the support member is configured to support the first test tube type, and a second position, where the first support member is configured to support the second test tube type.
Apparatus for Testing a Liquid Specimen
Apparatus (2) for testing a liquid specimen, which apparatus (2) comprises: (i) a container (4) for the liquid specimen; (ii) a lid (6) for closing the container (4) after the liquid specimen has been provided in the container (4); (iii) first securing means (8) by which the lid (6) is secured to the container (4); (iv) a test capsule (10) for securing to the lid (6) when the lid (6) is on the container (4); (v) second securing means (12) by which the test capsule (10) is secured to the lid (6); and (vi) a response chart (14) which is operable in response to contact with the liquid specimen, and the apparatus (2) being such that: (vii) the lid has an openable portion (18) which when opened permits a liquid specimen in the container (4) to enter the test capsule (10); (viii) the test capsule (10) has opener means (20) for opening the openable portion on the lid (6) when the test capsule (10) is secured to the lid (6); and (ix) the response chart (14) is inside the test capsule (10) and is contacted by the liquid specimen when the liquid specimen enters the test capsule (10).
Pipette Tip Loading and Unloading Mechanism for Single Row Multichannel Pipettors
A mechanism that provides an improved method of loading and unloading a row of disposable pipette tips onto a handheld multichannel pipettor. A single button fur tip load and unload operations is simpler than the current method of using a separate mechanism for ejecting the tips. The tips are configured in a rigid collar which is held by a clamp on the pipettor. An upward force combined with a sealing gasket that mates with the top of the pipette tips is used to provide the seal between the tips and the pipettor. This eliminates the requirement to “press downward” with excessive force in order to force the pipette tips onto a protruding sealing part. The loading and unloading of tips will be more reliable and repeatable, this providing better pipetting results. The low forces of the loading and unloading operations reduce the chance of repetitive stress injury for the operator.
Self-centering vial clamp
A self-centering vial clamp is provided. The self-centering vial clamp includes a clamp body including a vial aperture and two or more jaw slots spaced around the vial aperture, two or more clamp jaws spaced around the vial aperture, with a clamp jaw including a vial contact face and one or more jaw projections configured to engage a jaw slot of the clamp body, and two or more lever arms coupled to the two or more clamp jaws. A lever arm of the self-centering vial claim is configured to be manually pivoted, wherein the lever arm translates the pivoting motion into a sliding motion of the corresponding clamp jaw. Interacting lever gears formed on the lever arms constrain the two or more clamp jaws to move substantially in unison during the manual pivoting, aligning the vial.
