Ionic species interrogation and sensing
A method may include maintaining a sample comprising an ionic species and an optical indicator at an elevated temperature above 25° C. on a semi-conductive microfluidic die during an incubation period, intermittently interrogating the sample with an interrogating light during the incubation period and sensing a response of the sample to the interrogating light, wherein the sample is interrogated with the interrogating light only during those times at which the sample is being sensed.
Microfluidic device including an amplification reaction chamber
A microfluidic system is intended for the analysis of a biological sample containing biological species. The system includes an optical detection device having a source configured to emit an optical signal and at least one sensor having a capture surface defining an optical signal reading zone. The system also includes a microfluidic device having a support in which an amplification chamber, in which an amplification reaction can be carried out, is made, and having an input channel opening into the amplification chamber. The amplification chamber includes at least one first zone located in the sensor reading zone and at least one protuberance forming a recess intended to receive a compound for internal control of the amplification reaction and arranged to be located outside the sensor reading zone or configured to be opaque to said optical signal.
Microfluidic Devices and Methods for Use Thereof in Multicellular Assays of Secretion
Methods and devices are provided herein for identifying a cell population comprising an effector cell that exerts an extracellular effect. In one embodiment the method comprises retaining in a microreactor a cell population comprising one or more effector cells, wherein the contents of the microreactor further comprise a readout particle population comprising one or more readout particles, incubating the cell population and the readout particle population within the microreactor, assaying the cell population for the presence of the extracellular effect, wherein the readout particle population or subpopulation thereof provides a direct or indirect readout of the extracellular effect, and determining, based on the results of the assaying step, whether one or more effector cells within the cell population exerts the extracellular effect on the readout particle. If an extracellular effect is measured, the cell population is recovered for further analysis to determine the cell or cells responsible for the effect.
MICROFLUIDIC SYSTEMS, PUMPS, VALVES, FLUIDIC CHIPS THEREOF, AND APPLICATIONS OF SAME
Microfluidic systems, pumps, valves and applications of the same are provided. The microfluidic system may be a pump or a valve having a fluidic chip and an actuator controlling the opening and closing of the fluidic channel in the fluidic chip. The actuator may be disposed to tilt from the fluidic chip, forming a tilted-rotor peristaltic pump. Alternatively, the actuator may be a rolling ball actuator, and different fluidic chips may be used in different applications. For example, the fluidic chip may be a spiral pump chip having spiral channels, a rotary peristaltic pump chip having multiple output channels, or a multi-port valve chip having one port interconnected with multiple different ports. An analytical valve chip may switchably interconnect bioreactor and rinse/calibration input channels to sensor and waste output channels. The actuator of a random-access valve can move from one valve position to another without opening or closing intermediate ones.
Microfluidic products with controlled fluid flow
A microfluidic product utilizing gradient surface energy coatings for fluid control comprising a plurality of fluid passages wherein at least one fluid passage comprises a coating configured to control liquid flow wherein the coating configured to control liquid flow comprises a gradient surface energy coating from a proximal location to a distal location on a surface of the fluid passage. The product can include uniform regions and surface gradient regions in the same passage. Coating compositions and product dimensions can be selected to provide control over different flow properties including fluid velocity, reduction and acceleration of fluid flow, and starting and stopping fluid flow.
Biosecurity screening system and method
The present invention provides systems and methods for rapid screening of individuals who may have been exposed to and carrying biological agents potentially contagious or otherwise harmful to the general public.
Toilet with infrastructure for analytical devices
An analytical toilet comprising a bowl for receiving excreta from a user; a base supporting the bowl; a supply of flush water; and a plurality of receptacles, each providing mechanical attachment, a power supply, and a data connection to an analytical device, which analytical device is adapted to provide data useful to the user is disclosed.
SYSTEMS, DEVICES AND METHODS FOR CELL CAPTURE AND METHODS OF MANUFACTURE THEREOF
Embodiments of the current disclosure are directed to systems, methods and apparatus for evaluating single cell secretion profiles. In some embodiments, the apparatus may be configured to analyze substances expressed by a biological cell and may include a first compressible substrate, and a second substrate configured for removable sealing attachment with the first substrate. In some embodiments, upon attachment of the second substrate with the first substrate, an assembly is formed such that the open side of the plurality of chambers are covered by the second substrate, and a portion of each of the plurality of capture areas are exposed in each of the chambers.
