The invention relates to a shell plate, to a method for making a shell plate and to a grinding mill for ore grinding. The shell plate is mountable to a shell of a grinding mill for grinding ore and includes a shell plate body having a first portion including a fixing surface for fixing the shell plate body to the shell, and a second portion having a wear surface facing toward an interior of the grinding mill. The first portion and the second portion form a continuous shell plate body, and the second portion includes polyurethane such that the wear surface is made of polyurethane.

A first fastener portion is adapted to co-operate with a second fastener portion to securing the wear liner to the structure. The first fastener portion is received in the at least one hole and is at least partially housed within the wear liner.

The liner comprises a wear surface and an opposite inner surface. The head nut forming part of a coupling for use in removably mounting the mill liner to an interior surface of the grinding mill. The mill liner assembly further comprises at least one passage having an interior wall extending through in the liner for receiving the head nut. The head nut includes a leading end and a trailing end being spaced apart along an axis. The head nut also comprises a body having an interior bore extending along the axis operative to receive a shank, the shank forming part of the coupling, and an engaging portion connected to or integrally formed with the body to engage the interior wall of the passage to retain the head nut in the at least one passage in the mill liner. Also disclosed is a method of installation of a head nut in a mill liner.

A composite milling component comprising a composite region of ceramic material and metal is disclosed. The milling component may comprise a lifting member such as a digger shoe of a vertical tower mill, a flight liner of a vertical tower mill, a shell liner of a horizontal axis mill, and/or an end liner of a horizontal axis mill. The composite region may be formed into a portion of the milling component that experiences greater wear than other portions to increase a wear-resistance of the milling component. The composite region may be formed integrally into the milling component during a casting processes of the milling component.
