The invention involves an automatic shut-off waste disposer that may be activated with a control module, which utilizes a programmable automatic shut-off routine. This enables a user to turn on the garbage disposer and walk away without having to turn the disposer off. In exemplary embodiments, activation of the disposer includes actuation of a solenoid valve for injecting a stream of water flow into the dispenser chamber in order to facilitate a proper water flow while the disposer is actively disposing of food waste. In some exemplary embodiments, activation of the disposer may be achieved via a user-activated pneumatic actuator, which may be installed in proximity to the sink to which the disposer is coupled. In some exemplary embodiments, the disposer implements a sensor for automatically shutting of a motor of the disposer upon a predetermined event.

An impeller assembly with an impeller and a cutter bar plate is used in a chopper pump system which handles liquid material sometimes entrained with large debris and stringy matter. The debris and matter present clogging hazards, which are reduced by a combination of scissoring between sharpened impeller blades and shearing fingers, and between cutting wings and shearing fingers. To make the cutting feature more aggressive, sharpened edges along two of the scissoring edges of the shearing fingers are utilized. Preferably, the sharpened edges are either the result of machined v-notches on the cutting surface of the shearing fingers or of a casted part having a cupped surface. Generally speaking, the impeller assembly comprises an impeller attached to a rotatable pump shaft and includes a back shroud.

A comminuting device for solids-conducting liquids comprises a housing with an inlet opening, an outlet opening, and a housing interior extending from the inlet opening to the outlet opening, a first comminuting shaft extending through the housing interior and arranged to rotate about a first comminuting axis. A second comminuting shaft extends through the housing interior and is arranged so to rotate about a second comminuting axis. A first screening device has a first screening wall comprising a plurality of slots arranged in the housing interior adjacent to the first comminuting shaft. A first clearing device has a plurality of clearing elements which can be moved relative to the screening wall along a movement path and which extend through the plurality of slots starting from a first clearing shaft arranged on one side of the first filter wall to at least one portion of the movement path.

Some of the first cutting discs each engage in the intermediate space between two adjacent second cutting discs and some of the second cutting discs each engage in the intermediate space between two adjacent first cutting discs. A first shaft stub and a second shaft stub extend into an axial recess of the first and second cutting disc blocks for transmitting torques, and a first clamping device and a second clamping device clamp the shaft stubs against the cutting disc blocks.

A method for providing an axial gap in a cutter assembly of a grinder pump in order to secure an operative shearing action at a shearing interface in the cutter assembly. A grinder pump includes a cutter wheel connected to and driven in rotation by a drive shaft. The cutter wheel includes a set of cutting edges, and a cutter disc stationary connected to a pump housing and having a central hole and a set of cutting holes. The drive shaft and the cutter wheel are interconnected via the central hole of the cutter disc, wherein the cutter wheel and the cutter disc constitute the cutter assembly. A shim, which has a thickness equal to or greater than 0.05 millimeters and equal to or less than 0.15 millimeters and that is manufactured from degradable paper or plastic material, is clamped between the cutter wheel and the cutter disc.
