A microwave applicator box for breakdown of medical waste materials is provided, including: an interior defined by at least one wall; a plurality of inclined grates in an alternating arrangement, including: a first grate extending from a first direction, and a second grate extending from a second direction and underlapping the first grate; vibration devices connected to the grates by arms; wherein the area above the first grate is defined as a Zone A and wherein the area below the first grate and above the second grate is defined as a Zone B; wherein a first waveguide is connected to an opening in the wall in the area of the Zone A; wherein a second waveguide is connected to an opening in the wall in the area of the Zone B; and wherein the interior of the waveguides is in communication with the interior of the microwave applicator box.

The material intake member includes an intake housing and an intake cover. The intake cover pivots from an open to a closed orientation to receive objects to be shredded. At least one microprocessor board is used to control devices of the waste destruction device. The waste destruction device preferably includes a cutter housing, a first cutter member, a second cutter member, a cutter motor and a cutter intake housing. The waste destruction device preferably contains disinfection devices for disinfecting thereof. The storage member preferably includes a storage housing, a container drawer and a waste container. Apparatuses and systems are provided which include one or more receptacles for receiving drugs and further include one or more stored supplies of one or more absorbent materials comprising crosslinkers, wherein the apparatus and systems are adapted to release the absorbent materials comprising crosslinkers into the one or more receptacles. A method is provided which includes depositing a drug into a predetermined amount of fluid and adding to the drug containing fluid a absorbent material comprising crosslinkers which is capable of encapsulating the drug containing fluid and possibly killing infectious materials within the fluid and/or denaturing the drug within the fluid.

The waste destruction device preferably includes a cutter housing, a first cutter member, a second cutter member, a cutter motor and a cutter intake housing. The container drawer is slidably received by the storage housing.

Many hospitals and medical facilities have a need to safely dispose of their biomedical waste. Onsite processing, particularly with ozone, is often less expensive and safer than off site handling, but many facilities lack the room for conventional ozone equipment with appropriate capacity to meet their needs. Accordingly, the present inventors devised, among other things, an exemplary system that includes, among other features, an shredder, an upwardly inclined auger chamber, and a waste receptacle. The shredder shreds unsterilized waste and feeds into the lower end of the inclined auger chamber. The chamber includes ozone injectors to treat waste as the auger conveys it upward toward an outlet that drops the sterilized waste into the waste receptacle. The incline of the chamber allows for a smaller system footprint with sufficient processing capacity to satisfy the needs of smaller hospitals and clinics.

Featured are a two-stage grinder, an apparatus embodying same and methods related thereto. Such a medical waste grinder includes a first stage and a second stage. The first stage includes spring loaded cutter stacks mounted on two adjacent shafts between two edge plates, each of the cutter stacks including cutters arranged in a helix to create space, each cutter including a number of teeth per blade and including a major diameter and a minor diameter, each cutter turning opposite a fixed counter knife enabling a pinching action against the teeth of the cutter. The second stage includes spring loaded cutter stacks.
