Amine-aldehyde resins and uses thereof in separation processes

Amine-aldehyde resins are disclosed for removing a wide variety of solids and/or ionic species from the liquids in which they are suspended and/or dissolved. These resins are especially useful as froth flotation depressants, for example in the beneficiation of value materials (e.g., bitumen, coal, or kaolin clay) to remove impurities such as sand. The resins are also useful for treating aqueous liquid suspensions to remove solid particulates, as well as for removing metallic ions in the purification of water.

DEPRESSION OF COPPER AND IRON SULFIDES IN MOLYBDENITE FLOTATION CIRCUITS
20170028409 · 2017-02-02 ·

A method of depressing copper sulfides and iron sulfides in a molybdenite floatation recovery process uses alkaline or alkaline earth polysulfides at high concentrate pH. The method of enriching molybdenite content from a slurry having molybdenite and at least one of iron sulfides and copper sulfides can include the steps of adding an effective amount of a depressing reagent selected from one or more alkaline poly sulfides, alkaline earth polysulfides, or a mixture thereof, to the slurry, wherein the pH of the slurry is greater than about 8.0; and passing a gas through the slurry to separate material by selective flotation, recovering the molybdonite from a froth.

ENGULFED NANO/MICRO BUBBLES FOR IMPROVED RECOVERY OF LARGE PARTICLES IN A FLOTATION CELL
20170014834 · 2017-01-19 ·

A method of recovering particles from a liquid, a froth flotation apparatus, and a method of recovering particles in a flotation cell are disclosed. In an embodiment, the method comprises a technique of exposing the particles to first-size bubbles having a first predetermined size; the first-size bubbles adhering to the particles; and exposing the particles in a liquid, with the first-size bubbles adhering to the particles, to second-size bubbles having a second predetermined size, the second predetermined size being at least approximately ten times larger than the first predetermined size. The method further comprises the second-size bubbles adhering to the particles and engulfing the first-size bubbles on the particles; and using the second-size bubbles adhering to the particles to recover the particles from the liquid. In one embodiment a first surfactant is used to form the first-size bubbles, and a second surfactant is used to form the second-size bubbles.
