Integrated vortex separator
An integrated vortex separator (IVS) is disclosed. The IVS includes a housing in communication with a waste inlet via which a waste stream is drawn under suction into a waste tank. In a first stage, the waste stream is drawn into a centrifugal vortex flow to facilitate the removal of solid and liquid waste from the waste stream, leaving a primary airstream. Within the housing, a filter assembly includes outer and inner inverted cones with a conical cavity therebetween, the cavity serving as a second stage into which the vortex flow is redirected to remove additional liquid from the airstream. Radial vanes extending inward from the outer cone define portals between adjacent vanes, through which the redirected vortex flow is isolated from the original vortex flow. Exhaust ports in communication with the conical cavity allow the substantially moisture-free airstream to be drawn from the IVS via a vent line.
CYCLONE SEPARATOR AND METHODS OF USING SAME
One illustrative cyclone separator disclosed herein includes an outer body, an inner body positioned at least partially within the outer body, an internal flow path within the inner body, the internal flow path having a fluid entrance and a fluid outlet, a first fluid flow channel between the inner body and the outer body, and a re-entrant fluid opening that extends through the outer body and is in fluid communication with the fluid flow channel, wherein the re-entrant fluid opening is positioned at a location upstream of the fluid entrance of the internal flow path in the inner body.
System for Treating Wastewater and the Like
A wastewater purification system that uses mechanical and chemical processes to separate contaminants from municipal and other sanitary wastewater, concentrates the resulting sludge for disposal, and purifies the resulting product water for reuse as irrigation water, potable water or for disposal. The wastewater purification system can be scaled from a mobile system mounted on a skid or a tracker trailer to a large municipal wastewater treatment system. The wastewater purification system can include a hydrocyclone feeding a flotation tank. Flocculant is added upstream from the hydrocyclone after air injection by a Venturi air injector or similar device. Coagulant is added before the air injection. A dose of flocculant is added after the hydrocyclone within the vortex of the hydrocyclone and before the wastewater exits near the top of the flotation tank.
