The disclosure concerns an applicator (e.g. printhead) for applying a coating agent (e.g. paint) to a component (e.g. motor vehicle body component), having at least one nozzle row with a plurality of nozzles for dispensing the coating agent in the form of a jet in each case, the nozzles being arranged along the nozzle row and in a common nozzle plane, and having a plurality of actuators for controlled release or closure of the nozzles. The disclosure provides that the individual actuators each have an outer dimension along the nozzle row which is greater than a nozzle distance along the nozzle row.

A nozzle assembly is provided that includes two sections, the first section may be contoured and the second section may be a converging and diverging section that is downstream from the second section in the direction of gas flow. The contoured section, with a range of bend angles, allows for non-line-of-sight cold spray deposition, thereby providing location-specific control of the cold spray deposition process.

Accordingly, the two pig stations have a number of parking positions, to which a controllable media connection is respectively assigned. Appropriate activation of the media connections allows the effect to be achieved that only some of the pigs at a time shuttle back and forth between the two pig stations. Defective pigs or operational pigs that are being kept on standby in this case remain in corresponding parking positions of the two pig stations.

The nozzle is mounted to a nozzle holder having a nozzle mounting hole having a right cylindrical shape, an outlet port connected to the nozzle mounting hole, and a mounting internal thread. The nozzle includes: a mounting external thread disposed at a first end, and is a parallel thread that fits with the mounting internal thread; a cylindrical portion that fits in the nozzle mounting hole; a first introducing passage disposed coaxially with the cylindrical portion; a cylindrical choke portion disposed coaxially with the cylindrical portion, and a conical portion connecting the first introducing passage to the cylindrical choke portion.

Swirler elements for nozzles

A swirl element for swirling fluid in a nozzle has a swirler body. The swirler body defines a feed channel including an axially oriented channel surface and a swirl chamber in fluid communication with the feed channel. The swirl chamber defines a radially oriented swirler surface substantially normal to the channel surface. The swirl chamber and the axially oriented channel are in fluid communication through a tangential slot for imparting swirl on fluids passing from the feed channel into the swirl chamber. The tangential slot includes a smoothly rounded surface transitioning from the channel surface to the swirler surface for providing a smooth, substantially separation free transition in fluid flow from the channel into the swirl chamber.
