The apparatus has a cap portion, a housing portion, and a retractable flexible cord to provide a retractable cap to be used with the caulking tube placed in a caulking gun to prevent leakage when the caulking gun and caulking tube are not in use. The housing contains a retraction member which is placed under force when the cap is pulled away from the retraction member and placed over the tip of the caulking tube nozzle. When the cap is removed from the caulking tube nozzle, the tension from the retraction member causes the flexible cord to pull the cap to a location adjacent the housing so that the cap can be easily retrieved and not lost.

The functional principle of the invention relates to a molding region (14.) made of an elastic structured rubber (8.) which is positioned by a guiding system, flexibly adapts to the adhesive surfaces, and has a pressure point-developing effect as a result of the molding region (14.) being sealed laterally or to the front (in the guide direction). By means of the pressure resistance, which changes noticeably to the user, in the counter-pressure of the hand lever during a manual application process using a conventional application pistol, the actuation of the hand lever becomes a simple control variable, from which a flawless visible surface results in a work process which is easy to control. The sealant material can be applied horizontally and vertically, as well as in an overhead position, in an approximately loss-free manner. The guiding system of the application nozzle (5.) consists of two contact bodies ((16.) and (21.)). By virtue of the dual function of the second contact body (21.), a central sealant abutment can be produced.

A cartridge usable in a viscous-material dispenser includes a cylinder, a plunger in the cylinder, and a plurality of ribs extending radially from an outer surface of the plunger to an inner surface of the cylinder. The ribs are circumferentially separated by a plurality of clearances, and the ribs and the clearances extend in an axial direction. Each of the plurality of clearances is defined by two adjacent ribs. The ribs and clearances are configured to allow the venting of gas through the clearances during a beginning of a cartridge filling operation and to impede the movement of the viscous material through the clearances during a remainder of the cartridge filling operation such that, at an end of the cartridge filling operation, the ribs and bodies of the viscous material in the clearances form an airtight seal between the plunger and the cylinder.

Upon advancement of the leading glue stick beyond a forward end of the next-in-line glue stick, the next-in-line glue stick drops freely into the active position, and a transition from feeding the leading glue stick with the feeder assembly to feeding the next-in-line glue stick with the feeder assembly occurs exclusively by repeated trigger actuation. No other steps or actions are required to put the next-in-line glue stick into the active position upon depletion of the leading glue stick.
