Release webs and textured products
The present disclosure features processes and equipment for manufacturing materials that have a textured surface formed by applying a first texture to a curable coating, curing the coating, and then embossing a second, different texture over the first texture. The disclosure also features textured materials, including both release webs for use in replicative casting processes and finished products in sheet, board, plate or web form.
Method for applying and exposing coating or ink compositions on substrates to radiation and the product thereof
The present invention describes a two-sided radiation exposure method including a step of applying a coating or ink composition on a surface of a nonporous substrate. The applied coating or ink composition surface of the nonporous substrate is exposed to radiation one or more times. In addition, a non-applied surface of the nonporous substrate is exposed to radiation one or more times. The two-sided radiation exposure method improves adhesion and/or curing properties of the coating or ink composition applied on the nonporous substrate. The present invention also describes a radiation exposed, nonporous substrate with a coating or ink composition applied on a surface thereof produced by the steps of the above-mentioned method.
Method and apparatus for additive manufacturing
Various embodiments provide a method and apparatus for forming a three-dimensional article through successive fusion of parts of at least one layer of a powder bed provided on a work table in an additive manufacturing machine, which parts corresponds to successive cross sections of the three-dimensional article. The method comprises the steps of: applying a layer of predetermined thickness of powder particles on the work table, applying a coating on at least a portion of the powder particles, which coating is at least partially covering the powder particles, and fusing the powder particles on the work table with an electron beam.
ELECTRON BEAM CURING OF POLYMERIC INKS
Methods of electron beam (EB) curing of polymeric inks are provided. Surface printed substrates with polyolefinic inks (for example, HP indigo electro inks) are used with EB cured lacquers and/or instant cure EB laminating adhesives. EB treatment of polymeric inks can achieve cross-linking in at least one portion of the polymeric inks and can improve the temperature and pressure resistant properties of the polymeric inks.
Aqueous processing of composite lithium ion electrode material
A method of making a battery electrode includes the steps of dispersing an active electrode material and a conductive additive in water with at least one dispersant to create a mixed dispersion; treating a surface of a current collector to raise the surface energy of the surface to at least the surface tension of the mixed dispersion; depositing the dispersed active electrode material and conductive additive on a current collector; and heating the coated surface to remove water from the coating.
SURFACE APPEARANCE SIMULATION SYSTEMS AND METHODS
A structural member includes a simulated surface appearance. The structural member includes a substrate, plural intermediate layers, and a top coat. The plural intermediate layers are applied over at least one surface of the substrate, with at least some of the plural intermediate layers configured to cooperate with each other to provide a simulated appearance for the structural member. The top coat is applied outward of the plural intermediate layers. The top coat is relatively thin and is configured for use with exterior applications. The top coat includes a base configured for UV resistance and an additive configured to provide abrasion resistance.
Passive chemical system for detection of gamma irradiation
Encapsulated fluorescent metal nanoparticles for radiation detection comprising metal ions in an aqueous solution encapsulated in a nanocapsule, wherein the metal ions form atoms when exposed to gamma-ray initiated reduction of the ions and then aggregate to form fluorescent nanoparticles.
Microwave curing of multi-layer coatings
A method for providing a coated strip, which includes the steps of providing a metal or metal alloy strip, applying one or more coating layers on the metal or metal alloy strip and irradiating one or more of the applied coating layers with electromagnetic radiation, wherein one or more of the applied coating layers includes dielectric particles capable of absorbing microwave radiation and wherein microwave radiation is used to selectively heat one or more of the coating layers containing the dielectric particles to dry and/or cure and/or sinter the coating layer.
SYSTEM AND A METHOD OF MANUFACTURING A RELEASE SHEET FOR USE IN REPLICATIVE EMBOSSING
A method of manufacturing a release sheet for use in replicative embossing includes manipulating a surface morphology of a replicative surface having a predefined embossing pattern; and depositing and embossing a coating material on a substrate of the release sheet with the replicative surface, wherein both the predefined embossing pattern and the surface morphology of the replicative surface is transferred to the coating material of the release sheet.
