Methods of layer by layer self-assembly of polyelectrolyte comprising light absorbing or stabilizing compound and articles
Methods of protecting a substrate from light-induced degradation are described. The methods comprise providing a substrate and disposing onto the substrate a plurality of layers deposited by layer-by-layer self-assembly. At least a portion of the layers comprise an organic light absorbing compound, an organic light stabilizing compound, or a combination thereof dispersed within a polyelectrolyte. Also described are articles comprising a substrate and a plurality of layers deposited by layer-by-layer self-assembly wherein at least a portion of the layers comprise an organic light absorbing compound, an organic light stabilizing compound, or a combination thereof dispersed within a polyelectrolyte. Random copolymers suitable for use in the method and articles are also described.
Gold nanorod/polymer nanocomposites and sensors based thereon
A nanocomposite structure includes: a) a charged fibrous substrate including fibers having disposed on their surfaces a multilayer structure including a layer of a first polyelectrolyte and disposed thereon a layer of a second polyelectrolyte of opposite charge from the first, the second polyelectrolyte forming the outermost layer of the charged fibrous substrate; and b) charged nanorods having a charge opposite that of the charged fibrous substrate, including gold nanorods each having disposed on its surface one or more layers, the outermost of which is a third polyelectrolyte having a charge opposite that of the second polyelectrolyte, wherein the first and third polyelectrolytes may be the same or different; wherein the charged nanorods are disposed unaligned with respect to each other on the charged fibrous substrate.
Polyelectrolyte multilayers having salt-controlled internal structures
A method, and an article made therefrom, of: contacting a substrate with a first solution of a first polyelectrolyte polymer to form a layer of the first polyelectrolyte polymer on the substrate; and contacting the layer of the first polyelectrolyte polymer with a second solution of a second polyelectrolyte polymer to form a layer of the second polyelectrolyte polymer on the layer of the first polyelectrolyte polymer. The first polyelectrolyte is a polyanion or polycation polymer. The second polyelectrolyte is a polyanion or polycation polymer of a charge opposite to that of the first polyelectrolyte polymer. At least one of the first solution or the second solution is an aggregate-forming solution comprising an ionic species having at least two discrete sites of a charge opposite to that of the polyelectrolyte polymer in the aggregate-forming solution. The ionic species forms, via bridging interactions, aggregates of the polyelectrolyte polymer that remain intact in the aggregate-forming solution during the contact and layer formation.
COATED ARTICLES HAVING IMPROVED STABILITY IN AGGRESSIVE ENVIRONMENTS
Coated articles are provided comprising:
(a) a substrate;
(b) a first coating layer applied to at least one surface of the substrate; wherein the first coating layer comprises a material that inhibits degradation of the substrate; and
(c) a second coating layer that is different from the first coating layer and is applied to at least one surface of the first coating layer; wherein the second coating layer comprises an organo-silicon compound. Also provided are mold assemblies and assemblies for DNA sequencing prepared from the coated articles.
COATING METHOD OF REFLECTIVE FILM
A coating method of reflective film is first to prepare a glass beads film and then select a color to be coated. The color is composed of plural primary colors in fixed ratio, making the color have a standard ratio, which is obtainable from an original database. Next, ratios of the primary colors are respectively adjusted to form a printing ratio according to color fastness, permeability and light barrier property of each primary color attached to the glass beads and then, each primary color is orderly spray coated on the glass beads film to form a coating layer with micro-printing technique in accordance with the printing ratio, thus completing manufacturing of a reflective film with high transmittance and high wide angle.
Protective barrier composition for photocatalytic coatings
A coated substrate including: a substrate including a treated layer, a photocatalytic layer, and a protective layer between the photocatalytic layer and the treated layer, the protective layer comprising colloidal particles dispersed in a matrix, the colloidal particles including first and second types of particles that differ in their respective particle size distributions and which together provide a physical barrier by virtue of the first, smaller particles at least partially filling interstices between the second, larger particles and thereby impede photocatalyst derived degradation of the treated layer, the first type of colloid particles comprising hydrolyzed silica based material such as reactive silica condensate particles or polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes, or mixtures thereof, the protective layer having an effect of less than 20 delta E units on the color and gloss of the substrate.
METHOD FOR REPAIRING AN AIRFOIL SURFACE HAVING AN ELASTOMERIC PROTECTIVE COATING
This invention relates to the repair and removal of erosion or impact damage using hand sandable elastomeric coatings on a curved substrate, particularly such surfaces as the leading edge of the airfoil. Specialized applicators and methods of use are also disclosed.
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR DECORATING METALS WITH MORE THAN ONE COLOR
A method for applying a layer of a second color according to a predetermined pattern, on at least one face of a metal substrate, which is entirely painted with a first color comprising applying a primer according to a predetermined pattern onto at least one face of a metal substrate, applying thereto a UV curable powder coating comprising a second color that is different from the first color, removing excess of UV curable powder coating such that the UV curable powder coating remains only at a location on the metal substrate determined by the primer, activating IR and UV energy in order to cure the UV curable powder coating, and forming a metal substrate decorated with at least two colors according to the predetermined pattern on at least one face of the metal substrate, and a system for performing the same.
