A unique fiber core sampler composition, related systems, and techniques for designing, making, and using the same are described. The sampler is used to interface with existing field instrumentation, such as Ion Mobility Spectrometer (IMS) equipment. Desired sampler characteristics include its: stiffness/flexibility; thermal mass and conductivity; specific heat; trace substance collection/release dependability, sensitivity and repeatability; thickness; reusability; durability; stability for thermal cleaning; and the like. In one form the sampler has a glass fiber core with a thickness less than 0.3 millimeter that is coated with a polymer including one or more of: polymeric organofluorine, polyimide, polyamide, PolyBenzImidazole (PBI), PolyDiMethylSiloxane (PDMS), sulfonated tetrafluoroethylene (PFSA) and Poly(2,6-diphenyl-p-phenylene Oxide) (PPPO). Multiple polymer coatings with the same or different polymer types may be included, core/substrate surface functionalization utilized, and/or the core/substrate may be at partially filled with thermally conductive particles.
ARTICLES AND METHODS OF FORMING VIAS IN SUBSTRATES
Methods of forming vias in substrates having at least one damage region extending from a first surface etching the at least one damage region of the substrate to form a via in the substrate, wherein the via extends through the thickness T of the substrate while the first surface of the substrate is masked. The mask is removed from the first surface of the substrate after etching and upon removal of the mask the first surface of the substrate has a surface roughness (Rq) of about less than 1.0 nm.
Method of glass fabric production including resin adhesion for printed circuit board formation
Embodiments generally relate to devices and methods for production of fibers and threads for use in electronic device manufacturing. Described here, fibers can be produced and manipulated using a dual-surfaced sizing material. The dual-surfaced sizing material has a surface which binds a fiber and a surface which binds a resin. Thus, the dual-surfaced sizing material can be left attached to the fibers without adversely affecting the resin binding in later production steps.
MANUFACTURING METHOD FOR OPTICALLY ANISOTROPIC FILM
Provided is a manufacturing method for an optically anisotropic film in which a tilt angle of a liquid crystal compound is controlled to be constant in a thickness direction. The method includes, in the following order, steps of applying a photo-alignment composition onto a base material to form a photo-alignment composition layer, irradiating a surface of the photo-alignment composition layer with a non-polarized and collimated ultraviolet ray in an oblique direction, applying the liquid crystal composition onto the photo-alignment composition layer irradiated with the ultraviolet ray to form a liquid crystal composition layer, a applying a magnetic field to the liquid crystal composition layer along a direction substantially parallel to an irradiation direction of the ultraviolet ray in irradiating step at a temperature at which the liquid crystal composition in the liquid crystal composition layer exhibits an alignment state, and curing the liquid crystal composition layer.

A composition that is easily applied, clear, well-bonded, and superhydrophobic is disclosed. In one aspect, the composition includes a hydrophobic fluorinated solvent, a binder comprising a hydrophobic fluorinated polymer, and hydrophobic fumed silica nanoparticles. Also disclosed is a structure including a substrate coated with the composition, as well as a method for making the composition and a method of coating a substrate with the composition.
Silicone coating suited for automotive windshields and process for preparation
A silicone coating is provided for glass and other surfaces with improved glass clarity and maintenance requirements. In addition a process for preparing a silicone film with improved glass clarity and maintenance requirements. Further a method is provided for adhering an improved silicone coating to a glass (or other) surface. Also a silicone coating is provided for granite, cement, and lexan/plastic.
WATER-REPELLENT COATING APPLYING SYSTEM AND METHOD
An exemplary system for applying a water-repellent coating to the outside of a window of a vehicle includes at least one reservoir for a hydrophobic fluid, at least one wiper with a wiper blade, and a control device. A first line leads from the reservoir to the wiper. The first line extends at least over part of the length of the wiper and has, in the region of the wiper blade, at least one opening by way of which the hydrophobic fluid can be applied to the window. An exemplary method for applying a water-repellent coating to a window of a vehicle, includes, among other things, determining a status of the water-repellent properties of the window with reference to a threshold value of a quantity of water on the outer-facing surface of the window, transmitting a signal from the control device to initiate a communicating of a hydrophobic fluid from a reservoir to a wiper when the status indicates that the quantity of water on the window has reached the threshold value, communicating hydrophobic fluid from the reservoir to the wiper, distributing hydrophobic fluid on the window by means of a movement of the wiper.
