Method of shaping a surface coating on a razor blade

A method for shaping a coating on a razor blade, and a razor blade produced using the aforesaid method, are provided. The method includes the steps of a) providing a razor blade having a tip end defined by at least one tip surface and a cutting edge; b) applying a surface coating having a first thickness on at least one tip surface; and c) shaping the surface coating on the at least one tip surface to have a second thickness using a fluid stream, which second thickness is less than the first thickness.

Nonstick cookware materials, and methods for manufacture and use

Heat resistant and/or nonstick polymer materials and composites, and cookware including a food support surface comprising an integrated or attached cooking surface formed of the materials and composites. The cookware can includes a melt-processible fluoropolymer surface or insert. The cookware can further include a laminate material with structural rigidity, wherein the laminate material includes a flexible substrate impregnated with the heat resistant polymer material, coated with a nonstick coating, and pressed or molded in a shaped cookware or other nonstick items or component. Various cooking devices can be pressed from the material, as well as oven or vehicle components.

Refurbishment process of the pumping unit in a volumetric screw compressor of the ‘oil free’ type

A refurbishment process for a volumetric screw compressor of the oil-free type, which comprises a male rotor and a female rotor, is described. The process comprises visually checking the wear condition of the rotors, treating their surface for removing the previous coating, and applying a new coating on the surface. The composition of the coating applied on the surface of the rotors consists of the following materials: TABLE-US-00001 Material Amount (g) Polytetrafluoroethylene 750 850 (954G 303 C Teflon, DuPont) Amorphous graphite powder 300 400 Thinner for spray cleaning apparatuses 200 270 (8595 thinner, DuPont) Methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) 170 220 Cellosolve acetate coating additive 200 300 (Syn Fac 800 resin).

Wind turbine blade repair method

A repair solution for a wind turbine blade is described. The repair solution includes the application of a layer of viscous coating material to the section of the blade to be repaired, which is cured to form a repaired surface. The layer of viscous coating material may be temporarily covered during the curing process using a film of Low Surface Energy material, to prevent defects in the repaired surface from dust, insects, etc. Additionally or alternatively, a temporary shield may be erected adjacent the curing layer of coating material, to allow for the control of the temperature and/or humidity levels of the region adjacent the curing material, to provide for more effective control of the curing process and to allow for repairs to be carried out for a wider process window.

A method to protect and modify surface properties of articles is disclosed. In one embodiment of the method, an intermediate layer is first deposited onto a substrate of the article. The intermediate layer has a thickness of at least 2 mils containing a plurality of pores with a total pore volume of 5 to 50% within a depth of at least 2 mils. A lubricant material is deposited onto the intermediate layer, wherein the lubricant material infiltrates at least a portion of the pores and forms a surface layer. The surface layer can be tailored with the selection of the appropriate material for the intermediate layer and the lubricant material, for the surface layer to have the desired surface tension depending on the application.

Embodiments of the invention relate generally to protective leaching masks, and methods of manufacturing and using the same for leaching superabrasive elements such as polycrystalline diamond elements. In an embodiment, a protective leaching mask assembly includes a superabrasive element including a central axis and a superabrasive table, and a protective mask formed to protect at least a portion of the superabrasive element. The protective mask includes a base portion and at least one sidewall extending from the base portion and defining an opening generally opposite the base portion. The at least one sidewall includes an inner surface configured to abut with a selected portion of the superabrasive element being chemically resistant to a leaching agent and an outer surface sloping at an oblique angle relative to the central axis.

Polymer coating system for improved tribological performance

A novel Aromatic Thermosetting Copolyester (ATSP) can be processed into highly effective wear resistant coatings by blending with polytetrafluorethylene (PTFE) and other additives. Surface treatments/coatings are key to improving wear performance and durability in a wide array of applications. The problems associated with use of liquid lubricants, hard/soft coatings are well known but only modest progress has been achieved due to lack of research on new material systems. These coatings were fabricated and tested as highly effective wear resistant coatings by blending ATSP with PTFE and other tribologically beneficial additives. The main advantages of these polymeric-based coatings are their relatively low cost and simple substrate surface conditioning (i.e., no need for expensive surface preparation before coating).
