FLEXIBLE TACTILE ACTUATOR
Disclosed is a flexible tactile actuator including a tactile transmitter configured to be flexible and including magnetic particles capable of being polarized in response to an external magnetic field and a matrix layer including the magnetic particles, a magnetic field generator disposed below the tactile transmitter and configured to generate a magnetic field in the tactile transmitter, and an elastic member provided in a shape of a film, having at least a portion in surface contact with the magnetic field generator, and attached to be in surface contact with one of a top surface and a bottom surface of the tactile transmitter.
AUSCULTATORY SOUND-OR-VIBRATION SENSOR
A metallic diaphragm disk incorporating a piezoelectric material bonded thereto and operatively coupled to a base rim of a housing provides for closing an open-ended cavity at the first end of the housing. At least one inertial mass is either incorporated in or attached to the housing. A plastic film adhesively bonded to at least one of an outer rim of the housing or an outer-facing surface of the disk provides for receiving an adhesive acoustic interface material to provide for coupling the housing to the skin of a test subject.
Actuator and tactile sensation providing apparatus
Provided is an actuator having a piezoelectric element, a diaphragm to which the piezoelectric element is bonded and vibrates according to expansion and contraction displacement of the piezoelectric element, and a first spacer and a second spacer configured to fix both ends of the diaphragm in expansion and contraction displacement direction of the piezoelectric element to a base member. The driving characteristics of the actuator are determined by an effective length of the diaphragm between the first spacer and the second spacer.
Magneto-optical system for guided wave inspection and monitoring
The present application describes a magneto-optical based guided waves system for inspection and monitoring of assets. The system has a magnetostrictive-based wave emitter for signal generation and a network of optical fiber sensors for detection, both mechanically coupled to the asset, a device with embedded software for hardware control and signal processing, and a framework capable of providing visual and analytic insights about the condition of the structure of interest. The enhancement of flaw detection, location and characterization abilities of the system are obtained through the use of high sensitivity and passive fiber optics sensors with very small size, distributed and multi-parameter sensing capabilities.
ELECTROMAGNETIC ACOUSTIC TRANSDUCER
An electromagnetic acoustic transducer includes a flux guide surrounded by one or more permanent magnets abutting side faces of the flux guide. The magnetic field from the permanent magnets enters the flux guide where repulsion between the magnetic fields directs at least a portion of the magnetic fields toward a test face abutting a test object. The flux density at the test face is greater than the flux density within the originating permanent magnets. An active portion of a coil disposed between the flux guide and the test object contains conductors that are substantially straight, parallel and carry current in the same direction in order to provide substantially mode pure and uni-directionally polarised excitation of shear waves within the test object.

ULTRASONIC DENTAL INSTRUMENTS, INSERT ASSEMBLIES, AND INSERTS WITH IMPROVED PERFORMANCE DURABILITY
Ultrasonic dental instruments, inserts, and insert assemblies are provided which include an acoustic transformer and a tip that, in combination, are configured to operate at an operational frequency different from the frequency of resonance of the transducer that drives the combination. As a result, the ultrasonic dental instruments, inserts, and insert assemblies provide improved performance durability by providing improved output stroke ranges over nominal wear lengths between, for example, 2 mm and 3 mm, which results in more durable performance over a longer service life.
VIBRATION DAMPING DEVICE AND ELECTRICALLY DRIVEN ACTUATOR
An electrically driven actuator includes a vibration damping device; and an electrically driven unit operated by using electricity. The vibration damping device includes a vibration absorbing unit provided between a first support and a second support provided to face the first support, and expanding and contracting by using electricity, a measurement unit that measures vibrations of the second support, and a control unit that electrically controls the vibration absorbing unit to cancel the vibrations of the second support which are measured by the measurement unit. The electrically driven unit includes a housing provided on a fixed side, a shaft movable in an axial direction which is a direction toward a movable side opposite to the fixed side with respect to the housing, and a drive unit provided between the housing and the shaft, and driving the shaft with respect to the housing.
Electromagnetic acoustic transducer (EMAT) for corrosion mapping
Systems and methods for detecting corrosion in pipes are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, an apparatus for detecting corrosion in an object includes an electromagnetic acoustic transducer (EMAT) having a ferromagnetic core and a plurality of permanent magnets arranged peripherally around the ferromagnetic core. The permanent magnets are arranged to produce a magnetic field through the ferromagnetic core. The apparatus also includes a coil between the ferromagnetic core and the object.
ACOUSTIC FORCE ASSISTED PAINTING SYSTEM
An acoustic force assisted painting system has a housing, at least one nozzle and at least one acoustic emitter. The housing has a conduit for receiving paint from an external source into the housing. The at least one nozzle is disposed in the housing. The at least one nozzle has an inlet that is fluidly connected to the conduit to receive paint from the conduit. The at least one nozzle has an outlet that dispenses paint. The least one acoustic emitter is disposed in the housing at a location downstream of the inlet with respect to the conduit.
