Device and method for sorting a particulate stream

The invention relates to a device for continuously sorting a particulate stream, comprising: a) a conveyor (1) for conveying the particulate stream to a separation device, b) a sieve (7) for separating the particulate stream according to size, characterized in that it further comprises c) a per-sieve (3) comprising elongated sieve openings located between the convey or outlet and the sieve d) and a mechanical impact device for providing mechanical impacts to the pre-sieve (3). The pre-sieve allows to separate elongated objects like threads or wires form the particulate stream which would otherwise clog or block subsequent separation devices including the sieve.

A pressure screen for cleaning a fibrous stock including a screen element which has a rotationally symmetrical configuration about a screen axis. The screen element divides the pressure screen into an inlet chamber and an accepted stock chamber. The inlet chamber is connected at a first axial end with a suspension inlet and at a second axial end with a reject outlet. The accepted stock chamber is connected with an accepted stock outlet. The pressure screen also includes a rotor situated in the inlet chamber and including a plurality of rotor blades. The rotor rotates about the rotational axis relative to the screen element. The plurality of rotor blades is arranged on a plurality of circumferential planes of the rotor. The width of an annular gap between the rotor and the screen element decreases from the suspension inlet to the reject outlet.

A sifter includes a screen including a cylindrical portion. A helix is positioned within the cylindrical portion and extends between a first end of the helix and a second end of the helix. The helix defines a volume, such as an annular gap extending between the first end of the helix and a second end of the helix and extending inwardly from an inner surface of the helix by at least 25 percent of an inner diameter of the inner surface of the helix, the volume being available to receive particles sifted by the sifter. The helix may be a metal coil secured at ends thereof to a shaft driven by a motor. The screen and/or endcaps secured to the screen includes an opening through which particles that do not pass through the screen are urged by the helix.
