In one aspect, a method includes loading an initial material into a winnowing system via a feed member; feeding the material into a fluidically accelerated winnowing cavity, where the initial material impacts at least one plate member to yield chaff material and processed material, and where the processed material and the chaff material circulate in the winnowing cavity; and separating the chaff material and the processed from the winnowing cavity based on density. Other aspects include yielding intermediate material, where the intermediate material reimpacts the at least one plate member until yielding chaff material and processed material, preprocessing the initial material, controlling the flow of initial material into the winnowing cavity with a feed gate, where the chaff material egresses the winnowing cavity via a chaff chute, where the chaff material collects in a collection cavity, and/or more.

This powder-classifying apparatus has: a centrifugation chamber configured so as to be sandwiched between two opposing members; an air supply unit that supplies air into the centrifugation chamber and generates a swirl flow; a raw material supply unit that supplies raw-material powder into the swirl flow; a fine powder recovery unit having an opening part through which air that includes fine powder classified within the centrifugation chamber is ejected to outside of the centrifugation chamber; a coarse powder recovery unit provided to the outer edge part of the centrifugation chamber, for ejecting classified coarse powder to outside of the centrifugation chamber; and an annular slit provided to at least one of the members that constitute the centrifugation chamber, the slit being provided in a region between the center part of the centrifugation chamber and the outer edge part.
POWDER CLASSIFYING APPARATUS

SEPARATION AND RECOVERY METHOD
The disclosed method includes a separation step wherein composite particles are transferred to a vicinity of an inlet of a fibrous carbon nanostructure path configured to recover fibrous carbon nanostructures by allowing the fibrous carbon nanostructures to pass therethrough, and a fluid flowing toward the inlet of the path and an external force including a component of a direction opposite to the direction in which the fluid flows are applied to the composite particles to separate the fibrous carbon nanostructures and a particulate ceramic support substrate; and a recovery step wherein the separated fibrous carbon nanostructures are transferred to an interior of the path for recovery by a flow of the fluid, with the separated substrate transferred away from the fibrous carbon nanostructure path for recovery, wherein, in the separation step, the external force applied to the substrate is greater than that applied to the fibrous carbon nanostructures.

Method and apparatus to remove contaminants from an organics waste stream and filtering light organics from fluids
An improved process and apparatus for separating organics and inorganics from waste material with a specific object of preparing the separated organic fraction for the production of biogas or other methods for diverting organics from landfills. Waste material, such as municipal solid waste or source-separated organic waste (SSO), is subjected to a first separation treatment that separates organic and inorganic waste components. The apparatus includes a hopper to receive contaminated organic waste from different sources, a vertical separator that separates the inorganics from the organics by creating a vortex effect in a stationary filtration drum by which the solid contaminants (paper, plastic, metals) are blown in a spiral pattern upwards and removed from the top, while the organic fraction is removed from the bottom. Such apparatus is improved through several methods to reduce or eliminate blockages and their associated downtime, and to increase the efficiency of the separation process.
