A system includes an emergency response vehicle transitionable between a motive state and a non-motive state and a tool. The tool includes an identifier and is configured to be removably secured to the emergency response vehicle. The system further includes a scanner coupled to the emergency response vehicle and operable to identify the identifier when the tool is secured to the emergency response vehicle. A control module is communicatively coupled to the scanner and includes a processor and a memory storing instructions which cause the processor to determine that the emergency response vehicle has transitioned between the motive state and the non-motive state, and, in response to determining that the emergency response vehicle has transitioned between the motive state and the non-motive state, cause the scanner to scan the emergency response vehicle for the identifier to determine whether the tool is secured to the emergency response vehicle.

Methods, apparatus, software and systems are disclosed for improved processing and especially sorting of mailpieces in order to reduce expensive manual steps. Mailpieces rejected during a first pass DPS sort, in one embodiment, are transferred to a special Reject Encoding Machine (REM) instead of a manual sort process. The REM preferably includes a labeling machine and on-board OCR engine, in order to read and barcode the reject mailpiece in a single processing step. This technique provides very fast turnaround so as to enable returning the mail to the DBCS in time to be included in the first pass run. In this way, the once rejected mailpieces are returned to resume automated processing.

According to one embodiment, an article management device includes a receiver, a processor, and a transmitter. The receiver is configured to receive article measurement information. The processor is configured to select a first divergence control signal or a second divergence control signal based on the article measurement information, the first divergence control signal being for forwarding the article to a sorter configured to sort the article according to sorting destination information corresponding to the article, the second divergence control signal being for forwarding the article to a carrier. The transmitter is configured to transmit the first or the second divergence control signal to a diverger configured to forward the article toward the sorter or the carrier.

According to one embodiment, an article management device includes a receiver, a processor, and a transmitter. The receiver is configured to receive article measurement information. The processor is configured to select a first divergence control signal or a second divergence control signal based on the article measurement information, the first divergence control signal being for forwarding the article to a sorter configured to sort the article according to sorting destination information corresponding to the article, the second divergence control signal being for forwarding the article to a carrier. The transmitter is configured to transmit the first or the second divergence control signal to a diverger configured to forward the article toward the sorter or the carrier.

A method and apparatus are provided for delivering items to a plurality of storage locations. The items are fed into the apparatus at an input station having a scanning station. The scanning station evaluates one or more characteristics of each item. The items are then loaded onto a delivery mechanism that delivers the items to storage locations. Once at the appropriate storage location, the delivery mechanism discharges the item to the storage location and returns to receive another item to be delivered.

The sorting apparatus comprises: a logistic object conveyor, at least one chute, and at least one sorting platform. The logistic object conveyor is connected to one end of the at least one sliding chute, and the other end of each chute is connected to one sorting platform. The transportation apparatus comprises a supporting assembly. The output apparatus comprises an output apparatus body and a control device. Also provided are a sorting apparatus and a method for processing a logistic object. The system for processing a logistic object can automatically implement the sorting of logistic objects to complete the packaging processing of the logistic objects, thereby improving the logistic processing efficiency.

A method for sending an item (2) in an outer packaging (3) from a sender (1) to a recipient (14) over a transport route (12, 13), wherein the outer packaging (3) has an identifier (4) containing data identifying at least the recipient (14), characterized in that an outer packaging (3) provided with an individual identifier (4) is used, wherein the identifier (4) is captured by a data processing installation (9) and the identifier (4) is assigned the data identifying at least the recipient (14) by the data processing installation (9) and these data are provided by the sender (1) in particular by means of an input device (8) connected to the data processing installation (9).

A method for sending an item (2) in an outer packaging (3) from a sender (1) to a recipient (14) over a transport route (12, 13), wherein the outer packaging (3) has an identifier (4) containing data identifying at least the recipient (14), characterized in that an outer packaging (3) provided with an individual identifier (4) is used, wherein the identifier (4) is captured by a data processing installation (9) and the identifier (4) is assigned the data identifying at least the recipient (14) by the data processing installation (9) and these data are provided by the sender (1) in particular by means of an input device (8) connected to the data processing installation (9).

A parcel sorting system and related process. The parcel sorting system includes a parcel sorter, a plurality of shuttles, and a control system. The control system is configured to control the parcel sorting system to assign a first sorting destination to a first output of a plurality of outputs. A first container is positioned to receive parcels sorted to the first output. The control system is configured to control the parcel sorting system to sort parcels corresponding to the first sorting destination to the first output and deposit the parcels into the first container; when the first container has reached a target capacity, remove the full first container using a first shuttle; and position a third container to receive parcels sorted to the first output using a second shuttle.
