A sorting conveyor and a method for sorting packages to selected destinations. A neural network executed by a multi-core classification processor uses captured images of package units conveyed on an infeed conveyor to classify each package unit. A control processor controls a sorting conveyor to direct each package unit to a destination depending on the package unit's classification.

In an embodiment, an apparatus comprises one or more processors and one or more memories communicatively coupled to the one or more processors and storing instructions which, when processed by the one or more processors, cause: receiving a digital image of a particular item of mail and storing the digital image; causing data to be extracted from the digital image using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) or by processing encoded data; based on the extracted data, matching the particular item of mail to particular mailing data from the data stream; determining, based, at least in part, on the extracted data and the particular mailing data, one or more actions to take with respect to the particular item of mail and, in response, causing performance of the one or more actions.

Embodiments of a system and method for sorting and sequencing articles in a processing facility are disclosed. Delivery endpoints are divided and grouped into stop groups. A first sorter sorts items according to stop group and outputs the items to trays. The output trays from the first sorter are loaded to a second sorter in stop group order. The second sorter sorts items for each stop group into separate lanes. Each lane can then be sorted into output bins in delivery sequence order.

There is provided a parcel recognition device that recognizes a parcel based on an image including the parcel, the device including: a processor; and a memory, in which by cooperating with the memory, the processor recognizes a person in a recognition target space in the image, subtracts a space within a predetermined range including at least a part of the recognized person from the recognition target space, and recognizes the parcel by using a space obtained by the subtraction as a new recognition target space.

An information processing device includes a connection device and a hardware processor connected to the connection device. The connection device connects to an imaging device. The imaging device images a region on which an object to be handled by using a load handling device is placed. The hardware processor acquires image information about the region via the connection unit. The hardware processor detects, from the image information, an identification region in which identification information attached to the object is included. The hardware processor recognizes the identification information in the identification region. The hardware processor outputs region information related to the identification region and also outputs the identification information.

An information processing device includes a connection device and a hardware processor connected to the connection device. The connection device connects to an imaging device. The imaging device images a region on which an object to be handled by using a load handling device is placed. The hardware processor acquires image information about the region via the connection unit. Embodiments of a system and method for sorting and delivering articles in a processing facility. Delivery endpoints are divided and grouped into stop groups. A first sorter sorts items according to stop group and outputs the items to trays. The output trays from the first sorter are loaded to a second sorter. The second sorter sorts items for each stop group into trays based on carrier route segments. A manifest is created that comprises a list of the items in a tray. A mobile computing device alerts a delivery carrier when there is an item that needs to be delivered.
