A method and apparatus are provided for sorting items to a plurality of sort destinations. A scanning station evaluates one or more characteristics of each item fed into the apparatus. The items are loaded onto one of a plurality of independently controlled delivery vehicles. The delivery vehicles are individually driven to sort destinations. Once at the appropriate sort destination, the delivery vehicle ejects the item to the sort destination and returns to receive another item to be delivered. A re-induction conveyor may be provided for receiving select items from the vehicles and conveying the items back to the input station for re-processing. Additionally, a controller is provided to control the movement of the vehicles based on a characteristic each item being delivered by each vehicle. When an item to be manually sorted is encountered, a visual alert aligned with a selected destination is activated until manual transfer is confirmed.

In some embodiments, a method includes receiving sensor data of a plurality of dental appliances, each dental appliance associated with an identifier including (a) group data indicating a group to which the dental appliance belongs, and (b) sequence data indicating a sequential position for the dental appliance within the group. The method can include controlling a sorting cell to direct each dental appliance into one of a plurality of buffer locations based on the group data for the dental appliance, where each buffer location is configured to hold a set of dental appliances belonging to the same group; and controlling a sequencing cell to sequence the set of dental appliances associated with each buffer location by placing each dental appliance into a position within the corresponding set of dental appliances based on the sequence data for the dental appliance.

The method consists of marking the molds according to a system of pre-established coordinates based on a Fibonacci system or sinusoidal system, for identifying a mold number with the container that has been formed in that mould. Control means are programmed with the sinusoidal or Fibonacci coordinate system according to various coordinate points of each mold. The containers are formed with a bead or protuberance located at the bottom of each container according to the pre-established coordinate system. The recently formed containers are transported on a conveyor belt. Optical means are used to inspect the containers to identify, by means of the position of the bead or protuberance, the mold number related to the container.
