Improved Apparatus for Disintegration of a Solid and Method
20180029041 · 2018-02-01 · ·

An apparatus for disintegration (or mixing) of a solid in a vessel containing liquid, has a control unit and an ultrasound transducer for generating ultrasonic energy under control of the control unit. A coupling medium in communication with the ultrasound transducer is adapted to receive the vessel. Ultrasonic energy is transferred to the contents of the vessel such that in use the ultrasonic energy causes disintegration of the solid into the liquid contained in the vessel. An agitating mechanism is adapted to agitate the disintegrated solid in the liquid contained in the vessel. The agitating mechanism may include a paddle having a coating of flavouring material. A method for disintegration of a solid in a vessel is also disclosed.

Tablet cutting blade replacement jig
09878460 · 2018-01-30 · ·

Attachment/detachment of tablet cutting blades to/from a tablet cutting blade replacement jig inserted into and withdrawn from a tablet splitting apparatus to receive and deliver the tablet cutting blades is facilitated even in a dispensing site. The cutting edges of the tablet cutting blades are allowed to be exposed without detaching the tablet cutting blades. The tablet cutting blade replacement jig (60) includes: a jig main body (61) that can be inserted into and withdrawn from support members (28) in place of a falling tablet guiding member; blade holders (64) for retaining tablet cutting blades (41) within notches (63) of the jig main body (61); operating members (72) that are manually operated to switch between maintenance and release of retention of the tablet cutting blades; and urging members for maintaining the switched state even though the switched state is on a retention maintained side or is on a retention released side. Two openable-closable plate-shaped bodies (61a and 61b) are disposed in the jig main body (61), and the tablet cutting blades (41) are held with their cutting edges oriented toward inward surfaces of the two plate-shaped bodies (61a and 61b) in a closed state.

An medications dispensing cart for dispensing medications includes a cabinet that has a front, a back, a left side, a right side, a top and a bottom defining an internal space. A pair of left walls and a pair of right walls are positioned in the internal space. Drawers are positioned between and slidably coupled to each of the pairs of walls. Rollers are coupled to the bottom and a cooler is positioned in the top. A light, operationally coupled to a power module, is extendable from the interior space through a complimentary aperture in the top. Electronic locks, controlled by a keypad, are coupled to the drawers. A manual lock also is coupled to each of the drawers. A pill manipulator that is capable of cutting and crushing pills is positioned on the top.

Tablet splitting apparatus
09861556 · 2018-01-09 · ·

A tablet splitting apparatus includes a plate defining a vertical groove-shaped tablet passage, a catcher for holding a tablet moving downward through the passage at a splitting position, and a mechanism for splitting the tablet at the splitting position. A movable groove-depth defining member faces and covers an upstream part of the tablet passage. A sensor detects a tablet passing through the upstream part of the passage. A controller is responsive to the sensor to activate a mechanism to adjust the distance between the groove bottom surface of the tablet passage and the facing surface of the groove-depth defining member depending on the thickness of the tablet. The apparatus is configured to detect the driving current required to move the cutting blades to automatically determine a time to vary the moving speed of the blades and to release the tablet temporarily held at the splitting position, depending on the thickness of the tablet.

According to one embodiment, a device comprises a cover for a cup, the cover comprising a lid having a periphery, a peripheral wall extending from the periphery of the lid generally oblique or perpendicular to the general orientation of the lid, and a compartment attached to or formed within the lid, the compartment forming a unitary structure of the lid and the compartment, wherein the compartment extends beyond the periphery to create an overhang portion of the compartment beyond the lid.

Omega-3 fatty acid nutriceutical composition and optimization method
09610298 · 2017-04-04 ·

A novel omega-3 fatty acid/lipid based nutraceutical composition and a method of optimizing said omega-3 fatty acid/lipid based nutraceutical composition. The nutraceutical composition and method is based on the insight that different forms of high omega-3 fatty acid lipids (e.g. triglyceride form, ethyl ester form, free fatty acid form, phospholipid form) have different molecular modes and levels of action. Specifically the phospholipid form is likely more effective at promoting membrane fluidity and permeability, while the free fatty acid form is likely more effective at regulating cell receptors, such as the PPARa receptors, that are responsible for various metabolic effects including lipid metabolism. The desirability of producing omega-3 compositions that may act synergistically and thus more robustly to improve health and to some extent mimic markers of life extension such as shown by caloric restriction, along with specific optimization methods, markers, and compositions are taught.
