SYSTEM AND MEDICATION BOX FOR IMPROVING MEDICATION ADHERENCE

A medication adherence system and corresponding medication box for improving medication adherence. The system includes the medication box, which is transparent and has a machine-readable marker, such as a QR code, on or beneath the floor thereof. The marker is capable of being scanned and read through the transparent bottoms of individual chambers. Data embedded in the marker includes, but is not limited to, the user's medication plan, the date and time when the medication is to be ingested, and instructions for recording the date and time when the marker is scanned and read. The underlying software program/application processes this information and provides an indication as to the user's compliance with the medication plan.

A holding device is provided that has a base body having a plurality of openings in a first surface and a plurality of holding elements each having a movable surface. The plurality of holding elements are arranged with respect to the plurality of openings, respectively, such that a container extending in a respective opening of the plurality of openings is held by a respective one of the plurality of holding elements in a positive fit. The movable surface faces the container in a direction that is perpendicular to a height of the container. The holding element establishes the positive fit by a displacement movement of the movable surface. The displacement movement has a direction of movement that inclines an angle with the height of the container in a range from 60 to 120°.

According to the preferred embodiment, a rack (10) is provided to stock at least one medication container (16). The rack (10) has a generally rectangular shape, open on all sides, except for a tower (20) that is located at one end of base (12). The tower (20) includes indicia (26) and medication-related information (27) depicting at least two time frames for a user to consume his/her medications. Said at least one medication container (16), also includes indicia (33) and medication-related information (29) depicting at least two time frames for a user to consume his/her medications. The medication container (16) is accommodated on top of base (12) of rack (10), so that the medication-related information (29) of the medication container (16) aligns with the corresponding medication-related information (27) of the tower (20). Accordingly, a user will be able to observe the medication-related information of the tower (27), and also continuously observe the corresponding medication-related information (29) of the at least one medication container (16), or of several medication containers (16) in the case of a larger rack (10). For example, if the user notes, on the medication-related information (27) of the tower (20), the designation “MORNING”, then the user will be able to continuously view the generally aligned and corresponding medication-related information (29) of one or more medication containers (16) to search for the corresponding medication-related information (29), such as “TAKE 1”, thereby noting the at least one medication, and quantity thereof, that need be consumed by the user.
