METHODS, SYSTEMS, AND APPARATUS FOR COMPONENT MANUFACTURING

Methods, systems, and apparatuses for component manufacturing are provided. A component may be manufactured via an extrusion of loose substrate material into a unitary tubing. Features may be added to the tubing via friction stir additive manufacturing to manufacture a component. In this manner, a component may be manufactured from titanium alloys while processing challenges such as iron segregation or material loss through machining are ameliorated. Such a component may replace steel or other high strength components and further exhibits corrosion resistance.

Long cartridge case

A method and tooling for forming a cartridge case blank comprising backward extruding a tube from a length of wire stock in multiple backward extrusion steps with progressive tooling to obtain an intermediate blank that can be finish drawn without a preceding annealing step and which if otherwise not subjected to multiple backward extrusion steps, would require annealing prior to finish drawing to avoid tearing.

Method for producing seamless pipes and extruder

A method for producing seamless pipes and an extruder are provided, including: S1, sleeving an ingot holding cylinder on an upsetting shaft and feeding an aluminum bar; S2, moving the ingot holding cylinder backwards; S3, squeezing the aluminum bar by an extrusion plug; S4, after upsetting, moving the ingot holding cylinder and the extrusion plug back to one side away from the upsetting shaft; S5, removing the upsetting shaft and installing a mold on the mold shaft; S6, perforating the aluminum bar after upsetting by a perforating needle; S7, extruding the perforated aluminum bar by the extrusion plug. The aluminum bar after upsetting keeps the same central axis as the extruder centerline and the ingot holding cylinder. The seamless pipes extruded from the mold are uniform, thereby improving their concentricity and finished product rate.

Extrusion press systems and methods

One or more hollow billets are loaded onto an elongate mandrel bar for extrusion. The billets are transported along the mandrel bar to a rotating die. The billets are transported through fluid clamps, which engage the mandrel bar and provide cooling fluid to the mandrel bar tip, and through mandrel grips, which engage the mandrel bar and prevent the mandrel bar from rotating. One or more press-rams advance the billets through a centering insert and into the rotating die. A quench assembly is provided at an extrusion end of the extrusion press to quench the extruded material. A programmable logic controller may be provided to control, at least in part, operations of the extrusion press system.

A method of forming a fiber-reinforced composite part includes forming a composite preform by extruding a hollow metal shape onto a fiber-reinforced preform at an extrusion temperature and cooling the hollow metal shape from the extrusion temperature to a temperature less than the extrusion temperature. Heat from the hollow metal shape cooling from the extrusion temperature is conducted into the fiber-reinforced preform for curing thereof. Also, thermal contraction of the hollow metal shape onto the fiber-reinforced preform applies a consolidation pressure on the fiber-reinforced preform for curing thereof. The fiber-reinforced preform may be a hollow fiber-reinforced preform and a die can be moved through the hollow fiber-reinforced preform such that consolidation pressure is applied thereto by a combination of the thermal contraction of the hollow metal shape onto the hollow fiber-reinforced preform and the die moving through the hollow fiber-reinforced preform.
