It is important for the healthy growth of infants or newborn animals that any artificial teats or nipples that are used to feed them, are designed to provide consistent and measured flow rates when in use. Slits in the end of artificial teats or nipples are often used to provide openings for milk flow, and the slits naturally close to seal the end of the teats or nipples when not in use. However, slits need to be carefully aligned with the suckling action of the infant or newborn animal for the milk to flow at a correct rate. An artificial teat with a number of slits, each orientated at a different angle, and which are situated within a generally circular shaped valley or ridge that is formed in the end of the artificial teat or nipple is also disclosed.

PACIFIER DEVICE FOR METERED DOSING OF SUPPLEMENTS TO INFANTS

Pacifier devices with internal reservoirs and metering units are described. The metering units provide single dosages of an internal supplement material during a fixed period of time. For example, embodiments of pacifier devices can be utilized to provide supplemental nutrition paste or gel to undernourished infants with metered dosages as appropriate to the supplement.

FEEDING TRANSITION NIPPLE MECHANISM AND SYSTEM

A feeding transition system for transitioning an infant subject to oral feeding includes at least one no-flow nipple and at least one flow nipple. The no-flow nipple has a fully enclosed tip portion such that no fluid can flow directly from the nipple cavity through the nipple wall. The flow nipple is formed of a no-flow nipple having an aperture formed in the tip portion for flowing fluid from the nipple cavity through the nipple wall. The system includes a bolus delivery nipple formed of a no-flow nipple including a bolus delivery conduit disposed in the nipple cavity and in fluid communication with a reservoir of fluid. The bolus delivery conduit includes a conduit outlet attached to the nipple wall to output a bolus of fluid from the tip portion of the bolus delivery nipple via the outlet. A method for transitioning an infant subject to oral feeding is provided.

An infant nutritional device for delivering pre-measured micro dosages of essential multivitamin and mineral (MVM) to supplement infant diets particularly for those infants who are risk of malnutrition. The pre-measured micro dosages of MVM are presented in a cartridge that inserts into a housing of the nutritional device. The cartridge is in fluid communication with a nipple disposed in the housing. At least one seal of the cartridge is pierced and in fluid communication with a channel in the nipple, creating an air-tight seal, minimizing any air bubbles created during sucking by an infant. The MVM is in liquid form and contains at least one fat-soluble vitamin. The infant nutritional device eliminates the worry about inaccurate measuring, loss of material through spilling and overdosing or underdosing.
