A machine for machining, such as cutting and/or forming, planar workpieces has an upper tool and a lower tool that are movable toward each other to machine a workpiece arranged therebetween. The upper tool includes at least one cutting tool having at least one cutting edge and a clamping shaft. The lower tool includes a main body having a support surface for the workpiece. The support surface has an opening associated with an inner counter cutting edge. The lower tool has a positioning axis and at least one outer counter cutting edge provided outside of the opening and associated with the support surface. The outer counter cutting edge is aligned with an outer face of the support surface. A distance of the outer counter cutting edge from the position axis and a distance of the inner counter cutting edge from the position axis deviate from each other.

A tool for field notching metal roof panels to allow the panels to properly nest within an end lap condition, the notching tool operable between an open and closed position. The notching tool is comprised of two mechanism assemblies, each assembly comprised of two handles with the proximal end of each handle connected to either a first jaw body or a second jaw body and the distal end of each handle connected to a handle separation member that spans the distance to the opposing mechanism assembly. At the distal end of each of the jaw bodies a pair of dies, male and female, that span the distance between the first and second mechanism assemblies. The male and female dies are used for severing excess material from the roof panel edges.

Methods for die trimming hot stamped parts and parts formed therefrom

A method of forming a hot stamped, die quenched, and die trimmed part is provided. The method includes hot stamping and die quenching a blank with a quench die and forming a die quenched panel. The quench die includes at least one slow-cooling channel. The die quenched panel is die trimmed along the at least one localized soft zone that is adjacent a hard zone. The blank may be formed from a press hardenable steel (PHS), and the at least one soft zone may have a ferritic microstructure and the at least one hard zone may have a martensitic microstructure. The at least one localized soft zone may have a microhardness between about 200 HV and about 250 HV and the hard zone may have a microhardness between about 400 HV and about 500 HV.

A method of forming a hot stamped, die quenched, and die trimmed part is provided. The method includes hot stamping and die quenching a blank with a quench die and forming a die quenched panel. The quench die includes at least one slow-cooling channel. The die quenched panel is die trimmed along the at least one localized soft zone that is adjacent a hard zone. The blank may be formed from a press hardenable steel (PHS), and the at least one soft zone may have a ferritic microstructure and the at least one hard zone may have a martensitic microstructure. The at least one localized soft zone may have a microhardness between about 200 HV and about 250 HV and the hard zone may have a microhardness between about 400 HV and about 500 HV.

The punch holder and the die holder are movable towards one another by a guide. The punch holder is transferred along the guide into a measuring position in which the punch rests on a surface of a measurement object which rests on the die. A distance of the punch holder is measured from a zero point of the die holder and a distance of the measurement object from the zero point. An evaluation device outputs a punch length of the punch and a die height of the die or a die height of the die arranged in the die carrier.
