Apparatus and method for securing end pieces to a mandrel

A bumper spring assembly having a one piece mandrel including an integral head piece is further configured with a cage assembly retained on the mandrel with a cage nut locked to the mandrel to obviate the need for pins, set screws, and the like, to provide a more robust assembly. In two embodiments the cage nut is locked to the mandrel in a swaging operation. Improved flow of fluids through and around the bumper spring assembly are also provided.

Swage tool

A swage mechanism operable to expand an inner diameter of tubing including a housing defining a longitudinal axis, and a plurality of jaws coupled to the housing and movable radially outward relative to the longitudinal axis for selectively gripping an interior of the tubing. The jaws each include a first cam surface. The swage mechanism further includes a ram having a cylindrical portion and a frusto-conical head portion, and an arbor that is coupled to the housing and having a second cam surface. The frusto-conical head portion of the ram is insertable into the tubing to expand the inner diameter of the tubing. The second cam surface of the arbor is engageable with the first cam surface of each of the jaws to move the jaws toward or away from the longitudinal axis, wherein the second cam surface moves in a direction along the longitudinal axis.

Liner hanger for use with an expansion tool having an adjustable cone

A liner hanger is used for deploying a liner into a wellbore. The liner hanger includes a tubular body having a first end and a second end. The first end can include a connection to a liner. The second end can include a sealed connection to an operational pipe. The sealed connection can be releasable. An expansion tool attached to a work string can be used for suspending the liner hanger into the wellbore. At least a portion of the expandable pipe is radially expanded using the expansion tool. The radial expansion of the expandable pipe can cause compression of at least one seal member against a base casing.

Tool device for expanding the end of a tube

A tool device for expanding the end of a tube (T) includes an expansion sleeve element made of elastomeric material, the expansion sleeve element being arranged concentrically around a pull rod. A calibration sleeve is arranged concentrically around the expansion sleeve element. The inner die surface of the calibration sleeve comprises a mouth portion which has a fourth diameter (d4) which corresponds with a play to the outer diameter of the tube (T), at least one expansion die portion having a fifth diameter (d5, d6) which is larger than the fourth diameter (d4), and a shoulder between the mouth portion and the expansion die portion. The shoulder keeps the end of the tube (T), while being expanded, stationary in place inside the calibration sleeve. The calibration sleeve comprises mutually openable and closable calibration sleeve parts to enable closing of the calibration sleeve to a closed position (III) for the expanding operation of the end of the tube, and for opening of the calibration sleeve to an opened position (IV) for releasing the expanded end of the tube.

Joining method and joint structure of members

Disclosed is a joining method of members, which includes the steps of: preparing a first member in which a first hole portion having a polygonal cross-sectional shape is formed, and a second member having a hollow shape, wherein the second member has a cross-sectional shape corresponding to the polygonal cross-sectional shape of the first hole portion, the second member including a plurality of straight line portions extending linearly and corner portions positioned between the adjacent two straight line portions in the cross-sectional shape; inserting the second member into the first hole portion of the first member; and caulking and joining the second member to the first member by enlarging and deforming the corner portions.

Expansion tool

An expansion tool includes a housing and a collar rotatably coupled to the housing. The collar includes a plurality of slots. The expansion tool further includes a plurality of jaws, each jaw having a projection received in a corresponding one of the plurality of slots such that the jaws are coupled for co-rotation with the collar. The expansion tool also includes a mandrel movable relative to the housing between a retracted position and an extended position, the mandrel engageable with the jaws to expand the jaws in response to movement of the mandrel to the extended position, and a drive mechanism including a rotatable cam. Rotation of the cam moves the mandrel between the retracted position and the extended position. The expansion tool further includes a rotation mechanism configured to incrementally rotate the collar.
