Enteral feeding systems and methods

The present specification is directed to systems, devices, and methods of portable enteral pump systems for feeding and/or flushing an ambulatory patient. Embodiments provide an enteral pumping device that may be loaded by a patient from a front and a top side of the pumping device and is therefore more convenient to use. Further, embodiments incorporate a single rotor pump for dual-use purposes of feeding nutrients and flushing fluids to the patient. A pinch valve is placed between the parallel sides of the two tubes to cut off fluid flow when required. At least one sensor is also placed between the rotor pump and an outlet. The sensors are used to detect occlusions and the type of disposables used, among other purposes.

Apparatus and associated methodology contemplating a securement device for securing a percutaneous feeding device having a tube operably forming a feeding passage through a stoma placed in a patient. The securement device has an adhesive-backed substrate configured to operably adhere to the patient's skin around the stoma. A connector is selectively extendable relative to the substrate and selectively moveable between an unsecured mode and a secured mode, the connector in the unsecured mode clearingly disengaging the feeding device, and the connector in the secured mode configured to impart a securement force to the feeding device to restrict its movement relative to the stoma.

CONNECTORS FOR INFUSION PUMP FEEDING SETS

Improved feeding set connectors and cassettes are disclosed for use with peristaltic infusion pumps for safely delivering enteral nutritional fluids to a patient. The connectors provide an easy to use “pump-to-set” integration or “keying” system for specific reusable infusion pumps and their matching feeding sets, and can be utilized by medical professionals having various skill levels. The inventive feeding set cassettes can prevent accidental free flow of enteral fluids into a patient, even upon inadvertent release of the connector from the pumping mechanism.

An in-line connector for use in an enteral feeding system includes a tamper-proof, single-use connector having a first component connectable to a first feeding device of the feeding system, and a second component connectable to a second feeding device of the feeding system. A releasable locking mechanism is provided such that the first component and the second component do not rotate when connected. The connector further includes one or more prongs positioned substantially flush against an interior wall of the second component when the first component and the second component are connected such that the prongs do not interfere with the releasable locking mechanism. Meanwhile, the one or more prongs are displaced away from the interior wall when the first component is detached or disconnected from the second component such that the second component resists re-insertion or reattachment of the first component.

Enteral feeding tube housing and fixation devices

Enteric feeding tube housings configured to secure a feeding tube to the body are disclosed. The housing includes a disc having a hole configured to accommodate the feeding tube and two or more holes configured to accommodate fasteners. Also disclosed are enteric feeding tube housings that include a disc having a hole configured to accommodate the feeding tube and two or more holes configured to accommodate fasteners, and a plurality of fasteners. Also disclosed are surgical kits that include a housing, a plurality of fasteners, and a plurality of locking devices configured to adjustably secure the fasteners in the fastener receiving holes, and method of using the disclosed devices.

Insertion device positioning guidance system and method

There is provided herein a system and a method for an insertion device positioning guidance system comprising: an electromagnetic field generator configured to generate an electromagnetic field covering a treatment area; a plate sensor configured to be positioned within the treatment area in a location defining an orientation of a subject; a reference sensor configured to be positioned, within the treatment area, on the subject's torso, the reference sensor is configured to define a reference coordinate system representing the position and orientation of the subject's torso relative to said field generator; a registration sensor configured to mark at least a first and a second anatomic locations relative to the reference coordinate system; and a processor configured to operate said field generator, read signals obtained from said the plate sensor, said reference sensor and said registration sensor, calculate a position and orientation thereof relative to said field generator, generate a 3D anatomic map representing the torso of the subject and the first and second anatomic locations, said processor is further configured to facilitate visualization on the 3D anatomic map of a position, orientation and/or path of a tip sensor, located in a distal tip section of the insertion device, with respect to the first and second anatomic locations, independent of the subject's movement and independent of deviations in the position and/or orientation of said field generator, thus determination of a successful medical procedure is facilitated.

A feeding tube port for use in connection with an enteral feeding system is provided. The feeding tube port includes an inner core made of a first material and an over-layer made of a second material. The over-layer at least partially encloses the inner core, such that the inner core is configured to resist separation from the over-layer. In some aspects, the inner core may be formed from a rigid plastic material and the over-layer may be formed from a pliable material. The inner core may include one or more ribs, slots and/or apertures configured to enhance adherence between the inner core first material and the over-layer second material. The inner core may further include one or more contact points configured for attachment of a feeding tube valve other similar component to the feeding tube port.

FEEDING TUBE WITH ELECTROMAGNETIC SENSOR AND CAMERA

There is provided feeding tubes including an electromagnetic sensor including a sensor body comprising a core positioned at a distal end of the sensor lumen, and a wire extending along the length of the feeding tube, wherein an RF induced heating of the feeding tube in an MRI environment is below 5 degrees.

Measuring device

In some embodiments a PEG feeding device includes a tube sized to bridge a channel between a stomach and an outer abdominal surface; an internal bolster, and an external bolster. Optionally the bolsters are connected to the tube. The internal bolster may be sized to resist movement out of the stomach through the stoma. The external bolster may be sized to resist movement into the stoma from the outer abdominal surface. The external bolster may include an underside which extends from the tube in a radial direction between the external bolster and the outer abdominal surface. The underside of the outer bolster may contact the outer abdominal surface at a distance from an external opening of the stoma. Optionally the distance between the internal bolster and the external bolster is adjustable. Optionally an angle between one or both of the bolsters and the tube is adjustable.
