When the workpiece shaping space is opened, a molten metal is poured, and then the workpiece shaping space is closed to cast a semi-finished workpiece. After that, the first and second power arms axially press and forge the semi-finished workpiece in the workpiece shaping space into a high-strength workpiece. The high-strength workpiece is shaped by casting and forging in the same process.

An apparatus and a method for detecting a failure in a press for punching semiconductor devices are provided, where the method comprises the steps of locating a semiconductor device between a first die-set part and a second die-set part comprised in the press, and moving the first die-set part and the second die-set part relative to each other for punching the semiconductor device therebetween. The method further comprises the steps of monitoring a parameter with a sensor attached to the first die-set part and/or the second die-set part at different positions of the first die-set part when it is moving relative to the second die set part while punching the semiconductor device, and comparing a present variation of the parameter at different positions of the first die-set part relative to the second die-set part against an expected variation of the parameter at positions of the first die-set part relative to the second die-set part during normal operation of the press when there is no failure while punching the semiconductor device. The method also comprises the step of determining that a failure has occurred in the press when the present variation of the parameter is different from the expected variation of the parameter.

A fastening apparatus for setting a fastener penetrating into a workpiece having a first and a second sheet of material to be joined is provided. The fastening apparatus includes a frame supporting a punch and an upsetting die assembly. The upsetting die assembly includes a housing defining an axial bore, and a die member and a rod located in the bore. The die member and rod are axially displaceable within the bore. A stop member is pivotally connected to the frame and is in engagement with the rod. A fastener insertion force generated by the punch displaces the die member and rod within the bore, and the stop member is configured to dampen the axial displacement and reduce the fastener insertion force over a predetermined fastener insertion distance of the fastener into the workpiece.
