Feeder for swageable lockbolt collars and method of using same
A device is disclosed for supplying swageable collars from a magazine to a swaging tool such that the collars may be affixed to the shanks of lockbolts in a series of application steps. The feeder device can be mounted on the nose assembly of a swaging tool so that collar feeding and swaging can be accomplished in a single-handed operation. The feeder device responds to contact pressure against a work surface during a collar placement maneuver to release a collar from a presentation position for normal swaging. Releasing pressure on the workpiece allows a lower assembly of the feeder device to lift the next collar available from a magazine into the presentation position for application to the next lockbolt shank in a series of lockbolts to be finished.
METHOD FOR SCREWING A LOCKING RING ONTO A THREADED BOLT
The invention relates to a method for screwing a locking ring (1) onto a threaded bolt (2), wherein a coupling device (6) for being threaded into the threaded bolt (2) is driven in rotation by a rotary drive (4), and wherein the locking ring (1) is then screwed onto the threaded bolt (2), which is fixed by the coupling device (6), by a locking ring holder (3) which is driven in rotation by the rotary drive (4). The invention likewise relates to a method for screwing a locking ring (1) comprising a fastening part (18a) and a tear-off part (18b) onto a threaded bolt (2), wherein a removal gripper (22) grips the tear-off part (18b) and removes the tear-off part (18b) after the tear-off part (18b) has been torn off. The invention further relates to a screwing apparatus for executing a method according to the invention.
LOCKBOLT TOOL NOSE ASSEMBLY
The present invention relates to a nose assembly with integrated anvil and puller to assist in swaging a collar to a lockbolt type fastener. The nose assembly has a sidewall defining a hollow axially extending interior and an open terminal end, hollow axially extending interior having a first interior diameter, and an annular recess of a second interior diameter greater than the first interior diameter. A puller is slidably displaceable relative to the holder sidewall. The puller is configured with opposing sets of teeth for gripping a lockbolt pintail and to close grippingly on the lockbolt pintail when the puller is axially displaced relative to the holder sidewall sufficiently to draw a head portion of the puller at least partially out of the recess and into the first interior diameter length.
Amorphous metal permanent fastener utilizing a thermoplastically swaged retainer
A permanent faster is disclosed that utilizes an amorphous metal alloy for a retaining collar that is thermoplastically formed on install. The fastener includes a headed pin with locking grooves disposed thereon and a collar having a cylindrical inner wall. Head geometry may be any suitable shape; countersunk, counter bore, flat, etc., and may also be non-rotationally symmetric. The pin is disposed into aligned holes through the work pieces to be secured, and the collar is disposed about the pin over the locking grooves. The collar is heated into a thermoplastic region, something only allowed because of the amorphous metal material properties. The cylindrical wall of the collar is then radically compressed into the locking grooves to affix the collar on the pin. The amorphous metal properties allow use of a smaller fastener, and the thermoplastic region is reached at a temperature which does not damage composite work pieces.
FASTENING TOOL
A fastening tool includes a motor, an anvil, a pin-gripping part, a magnet having the north pole and the south pole aligned in a front-rear direction and configured to move integrally with the pin-gripping part in the front-rear direction, a first magnetic sensor having a first sensing surface, a second magnetic sensor having a second sensing surface and disposed rearward of the first magnetic sensor, and a control device configured to move the pin-gripping part rearward based on a detection result of the second magnetic sensor and to move the pin-gripping part forward based on a detection result of the first magnetic sensor. The first and second magnetic sensors are unipolar detection type sensors configured to detect a same specified pole of the magnet. Orientations of the first sensing surface and the second sensing surface relative to a movement axis of the magnet are opposite to each other.
Electric-hydraulic riveter and lockbolt hand power tool
An electrically-hydraulically powered riveter and lockbolt hand power tool is provided, having a battery driven electric motor mechanically powering an offset drive cam through a dual planetary drive gear, the drive cam being in direct mechanical contact with a single stage concentrically delivering longitudinally reciprocating piston pump being in direct hydraulic communication with a work engaging hydraulic cylinder surrounding a centrally fixed and stationary work engaging cylinder piston having a work piece puller shaft, wherein the work engaging hydraulic cylinder is thrust forward around the work piece puller shaft when the tool is activated thereby providing the mechanical motion to activate a user provided riveter nose assembly attachment. A multi-function valve provides essential hydraulic pump features integrated into a single simple component including over pressure relief, isolation of the work engaging cylinder cavity during pumping, and venting when the tool is deactivated.
LOCKBOLT FASTENING SYSTEM
A swage collar includes a shank, a flange, and a through bore. The shank includes a first end, a second end opposite the first end, an outside diameter, and an overall length between the first end and the second end. The flange extends from the first end of the shank. The through bore extends longitudinally through the shank from the first end of the shank to the second end of the shank. The through bore defines an inside diameter. The inside diameter and the outside diameter together define a wall thickness of the shank. The wall thickness of the shank is in a range of about 0.1 times the overall length of the shank to about 0.16 times the overall length of the shank.
Method for crimping a ring on an attachment rod using an automaton
A method for crimping and a crimping tool, such as an automaton, to crimp a ring on an attachment rod extending along an axis of the attachment rod from a panel. The tool involves moving a movement clip of the automaton to grip the ring so that the attachment rod is introduced into the ring and moving a crimping nose of the automaton so as to prevent the removal of the ring from the attachment rod. Once crimped, the ring is released and the crimping nose is moved so as to ready the crimping tool for subsequent crimping of rings on attachment rods.
FASTENING METHOD AND FASTENING DEVICE
A fastening method for fastening using a fastener having a fastener pin and a collar. The method includes a mounting step in which, in a state in which a head portion of the fastener pin is positioned on one side of the portion to be fastened through which the fastener pin is passed, and a lock portion of the fastener pin is positioned on the other side of the portion to be fastened, the collar is mounted onto lock grooves. The method includes a fastening step in which, on the basis of an un-swaged portion height derived from the thickness of the portion to be fastened, the collar is swaged onto the lock grooves and the portion to be fastened is fastened.
Fastening system and fastening method
A fastening system includes a plurality of fasteners having different sizes, and is provided with a pressurizing pump which pressurizes a fluid to a prescribed pressure, a plurality of pressurizing units which each have a pressure receiving surface, are each disposed in a position capable of pressurizing each respective fastener, and which receive the fluid on the pressure receiving surface to pressurize each fastener. A supply system includes a base end connected to the pressurizing pump and a plurality of branch ends connected to each pressurizing unit, which branches from the base end toward the branch ends, and which is capable of supplying the fluid from the base end throughout the branch ends. Each pressure receiving surface has an individual pressure receiving surface area corresponding to the corresponding size, and the fluid is supplied at the prescribed pressure from the base end throughout the pressure receiving surfaces.
