Combustion engine intake valve
10519820 · 2019-12-31 ·

An intake valve for a combustion engine is described. The intake valve has a head portion that is designed to improve the flow of air-fuel mixture around the head portion and into the combustion chamber. The head portion has a beveled or rounded edge at the top surface. The angle changes from the underside surface to the top surface are rounded to prevent separation of the air-fuel mixture from the surface of the intake valve. In addition, the underside surface of the head portion has a plurality of helical grooves that induce a circular flow to improve mixing of the air-fuel mixture in the chamber. The helical grooves also improve heat exchange between the air-fuel mixture and the intake valve.

Method and device for manufacturing hollow, internally cooled valves

A method for shaping a hollow valve preform of a pull rod (20) includes a structuring bulb (22) which is inserted into the cavity (56) of a shaft portion (44) of a valve preform. The structuring bulb (22) has an outer diameter, and has an outer structuring, whereafter the hollow shaft portion (44) is shaped, wherein at least a portion of an inner diameter of the cavity (56) is reduced below an outer diameter of the structuring bulb (22). The structuring bulb (22) is then pulled out through the shaped shaft portion (44), wherein the outer structuring is at least partially pressed into the surface of the cavity (56).

Exhaust valve for an internal combustion engine, and a method of strengthening an annular valve seat area in an exhaust valve

An exhaust valve for an internal combustion engine comprises a valve disc having a first side (14) and a second side (16), a valve stem extending from the first side of the valve disc, and an annular valve seat area (11) located at the first side of the valve disc. The annular valve seat area (11) is of a nickel-base alloy or a chromium-base alloy and has a valve seat surface. The annular valve seat area has at least a first annular portion (43) located in between two second annular portions (42). The first annular portion has lower hardness than the two second annular portions.
