Composition, a method for preparing said composition, a method for preparing a rigidified fabric, the rigidified fabric so obtained, a filtration device, methods for the manufacture of the filtration device, installation, process and use of said filtration device for the filtration of a liquid metal or an alloy thereof
A composition for preparing a rigidified fabric made of heat resistant fibers or threads of heat resistant fibers, preferably of woven threads made of heat resistant fibers, said composition comprising a mixture of a product A and a product B, the product A being obtained by polymerization of carbohydrate units, natural or synthetic, preferably a saccharide, and more preferably a sugar such as glucose, fructose, galactose, sucrose, maltose, lactose, etc.; and the product B consisting of at least one additive such as a binding agent. A method for preparing said composition, a method for preparing a rigidified fabric of heat resistant fibers, the method for the manufacture of filtering devices, filtering devices so obtained, their use for the filtering of metal, and installation and process involving said filtering devices.
Electromagnetic priming of molten metal filters
According to one aspect of the present disclosure, a method of priming a ceramic filter element for removal of solid inclusions from liquid metal is provided. The filter element is contained in a filter box and at least two separate inductors are placed on opposed sides of the filter element. The method includes the steps of a) applying an excitation current to the inductors, b) adding sufficient liquid metal to cover an upstream side of the filter element, c) allowing the current induced in the liquid metal by the inductors to create Lorentz forces which press upon and stir the liquid metal such that the liquid metal is forced into the ceramic filter element, hence priming the filter element, and d) discontinuing the excitation current once a predetermined degree of priming has been obtained.
APPARATUS AND METHODS FOR FILTERING METALS
An apparatus and method for filtering molten metal (M), such as aluminum or an aluminum alloy includes at least one ceramic foam filter or any other type of filtration media such as porous tube or alumina balls disposed in a receptacle (12) for the molten metal (M). A vibrator vibrates at least one of the filter, the receptacle (12) or the metal and may be used to induce priming, filtering and/or drainage of the filter. The vibrator may be retrofitted to an existing filter system and may be adjustable in frequency and amplitude. The vibration may be continuous over a given period or produced in a single shock.
Sludge Removal Devices, Systems, and Methods
Methods for removing sludge and/or impurities from a molten metal are disclosed herein, as well as sludge removal devices and systems for use in the methods. Sludge removal devices that can reduce the downstream deposition of sludge in certain process components through upstream deposition and subsequent removal from the molten metal are also disclosed.
Method and device for casting metal alloy ingots
A method of casting a metal alloy ingot, including the following steps: providing a one side open-ended mould including a plurality of sides and a bottom plate defining a mould cavity with a mould opening, the open-ended mould being pivotable around a horizontal rotational axis between a position so that the mould opening points upwards and a position so that the mould opening points side-wards or down-wards; positioning the open-ended mould such that the mould opening points side-wards or down-wards; providing a casting container with an upwardly positioned aperture; filling the casting container with molten metal for one casting operation; coupling the casting container to the open-ended mould so that the casting container is located below the mould while the mould opening points side-wards or down-wards; rotating the open-ended mould together with the casting container around the horizontal rotational axis for approximately 90 to 180 from a position whereby the mould opening points side-wards or down-wards to a position whereby the mould opening points upwards such that the molten metal is conveyed through the mould opening into the open-ended mould until reaching a desired thickness, whereby the molten metal in the open-ended mould is cooled directionally through its thickness where the solidification front remains substantially monoaxial.
Molten metal purification device
A molten metal purification device for purifying molten metal flowing through a flow body having a flow path formed by a pair of opposed side walls and a bottom wall. The device includes internal and external members provided inside and outside the flow body, respectively. The internal member includes an electrode body provided inside the path made of a conductive member and has a pair of opposed electrodes provided in the path where current flows across the electrodes through the molten metal and a non-conductive filter. The external member is configured as a magnetic field device having an upper surface side magnetized to an N or S pole and disposed below the flow body. Lines of magnetic force coming out from the N pole or entering the S pole intersect with the current to generate Lorentz force for driving the molten metal along a flowing direction in the path.
