The core reformer tool has a first portion and a second portion facing the first portion. The first portion includes a concave member and a first adjustable pin. The second portion includes a convex member and a second adjustable pin. The method includes positioning the core pattern in the core reformer tool and closing the core reformer tool. The method comprises adjusting at least one of the first adjustable pin and the second adjustable pin to alter a surface of the core pattern. The method includes directing cooling air through the core reformer tool to solidify the core pattern and opening the core reformer tool to remove the core pattern.
Hourglass airfoil cooling configuration
In one exemplary embodiment, an airfoil includes pressure and suction side walls that extend in a chord-wise direction between leading and trailing edges. The pressure and suction side walls also extend in a radial direction to provide an exterior airfoil surface. A cooling passage is arranged between the pressure and suction walls. The cooling passage has a first width in the chord-wise direction near the suction side wall. A second width is in the chord-wise direction near the pressure side wall. A third width is between the pressure and suction side walls. The third width is smaller than the first and second widths.
Turbine Blade Casting with Strongback Core
A method for casting a blade, the blade with an airfoil having: a tip having at least one of a tip pocket and a tip shelf. Each said at least one of a tip pocket and a tip shelf having a base surface and a sidewall surface. The method includes forming a shell, the forming of the shell including shelling a pattern having at least one ceramic casting core; and casting in the shell, the shell having a first portion formed by the at least one ceramic casting core and a second potion formed by applied shell material. For at least a first tip pocket or tip shelf of the least one of a tip pocket and a tip shelf, the at least one ceramic casting core molds the base surface and the sidewall surface and an adjacent portion of at least one of the pressure side and the suction side spanwise inboard of the base surface.
MULTICORE AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURING HOLLOW PRODUCT USING MULTICORE
The present invention relates to a multicore and a method of manufacturing a hollow product using the multicore enabling a hollow of a molded product to be molded more easily by casting and a quality problem to be addressed, and the multicore includes a first core, being made of a water-insoluble material, having a hollow formed in the first core and, having an opening formed at both ends of the first core so that the hollow is exposed to the outside through the opening, a second core, being made of a water-soluble material and disposed inside the hollow, and a coating layer, being configured to surround the first core to prevent the first core and the second core from being exposed to an outside, wherein the first core includes a plurality of spaces to allow a fluid supplied to an interior of the first core to flow toward the second core.
Method and assembly for forming components using a jacketed core
A mold assembly for use in forming a component having an outer wall of a predetermined thickness includes a mold and a jacketed core. The jacketed core includes a jacket that includes a first jacket outer wall coupled against an interior wall of the mold, a second jacket outer wall positioned interiorly from the first jacket outer wall, and at least one jacketed cavity defined therebetween. The at least one jacketed cavity is configured to receive a molten component material therein. The jacketed core also includes a core positioned interiorly from the second jacket outer wall. The core includes a perimeter coupled against the second jacket outer wall. The jacket separates the perimeter from the interior wall by the predetermined thickness, such that the outer wall is formable between the perimeter and the interior wall.
Casting device
In a casting device, positions of discharge ends discharging cooling gas, of respective gas supply nozzles are adjusted in response to movement of a mold. This makes it possible to stably achieve high cooling performance for the mold by blowing of the cooling gas. To adjust the positions of the respective discharge ends, the gas supply nozzles are advanced or retreated, or are expanded or contracted. Further, a cooling chamber may include a radiation cooling portion that cools the mold by radiation, and the radiation cooling portion is disposed below the gas supply nozzles that are provided directly below a heat shielding body partitioning a heating chamber and the cooling chamber.
Core pattern reformer tool
A core pattern reformer system for adjusting and setting a core pattern for use in casting a gas turbine blade has a first portion having a first internal face with a concave portion. The first portion is coupled to a second portion. The second portion has a second internal face with a convex portion. A plurality of adjustable pins is positioned along the internal faces of the first portion and the second portion. The pins have a height that is adjustable with respect to the internal faces. A locking mechanism is included for securing the first portion to the second portion. The system includes one or more air inlets and one or more air exits and a source of cooling air coupled to the one or more air inlets.
Methods for fabricating cast components with cooling channels
A method for fabricating a cast component with a cooling channel is provided. The method includes forming a shell mold over a pattern-ceramic matrix composite (CMC) elongated core arrangement to define a cavity in the shell mold. The pattern-CMC elongated core arrangement includes a pattern-forming material with a CMC elongated core disposed therein. The pattern-forming material in the cavity is replaced with metal via a casting process to form the cast component with the CMC elongated core disposed therein defining the cooling channel. The CMC elongated core is removed from the cast component to open the cooling channel for fluid communication.
