New heat treatable aluminum alloys having magnesium and zinc are disclosed. The new aluminum alloys generally contain 3.0-6.0 wt. % Mg, 2.5-5.0 wt. % Zn, where (wt. % Mg)/(wt. % Zn) is from 0.60 to 2.40.

Castable refractory material

A castable refractory material for use in the manufacture of refractory products including fused silica, ceramic fiber, microsilica and a bonding material comprising colloidal silica.

ULTRASONIC GRAIN REFINING

A molten metal processing device including an assembly mounted on the casting wheel, including at least one vibrational energy source which supplies vibrational energy to molten metal cast in the casting wheel while the molten metal in the casting wheel is cooled, and a support device holding the vibrational energy source. An associated method for forming a metal product which provides molten metal into a containment structure included as a part of a casting mill, cools the molten metal in the containment structure, and couples vibrational energy into the molten metal in the containment structure.

Method of making sound interface in overcast bimetal components

A method of forming a bi-metallic casting. The method includes providing a metal preform of a desired base shape defining a substrate surface and removing a natural oxide layer and surface contamination from the substrate surface to yield a cleaned metal preform. The method further includes galvanizing the cleaned metal preform, yielding a galvanized metal preform followed by electroplating a thin nickel film on at least a portion of the substrate surface of the galvanized metal preform. Additionally, the method includes metallurgically bonding the portion of the metal preform having the nickel film with an overcast metal to form a bi-metallic casting. The nickel film promotes a metallurgical bond between the metal preform and the overcast metal.

A castable, moldable, or extrudable structure using a metallic base metal or base metal alloy. One or more insoluble additives are added to the metallic base metal or base metal alloy so that the grain boundaries of the castable, moldable, or extrudable structure includes a composition and morphology to achieve a specific galvanic corrosion rates partially or throughout the structure or along the grain boundaries of the structure. The insoluble additives can be used to enhance the mechanical properties of the structure, such as ductility and/or tensile strength. The insoluble particles generally have a submicron particle size. The final structure can be enhanced by heat treatment, as well as deformation processing such as extrusion, forging, or rolling, to further improve the strength of the final structure as compared to the non-enhanced structure.

A fishing jig is disclosed. The fishing jig includes a semitransparent skirt having a generally tubular body that extends between a closed head end and a tail end that includes an opening. A channel is formed within the tubular body and extends from the opening toward the head end. The fishing jig also includes a jig head positioned within the channel of the skirt and at least partially visible through the skirt. The jig head may include a body having a first side and a second side, an eye positioned on each of the first side and the second side, the eyes being visible through the skirt, and a hook that extends from the body and through the opening in the skirt. The fishing jig may mimic the look and motion of bait fish.

A cylinder liner for an internal combustion engine may include an aluminum alloy material including a magnesium content of at least 0.3% by weight, a liner body having a circumferential face, and an adapter layer of silicon oxide disposed on the circumferential face. The adapter layer may include at least one of a potassium oxide content and a sodium oxide content of greater than or equal to 0% by weight.

Flooded lead-acid battery and method of making the same

Positive active material pastes for flooded deep discharge lead-acid batteries, methods of making the same and lead-acid batteries including the same are provided. The positive active material paste includes lead oxide, a sulfate additive, and an aqueous acid. The positive active material paste contains from about 0.1 to about 1.0 wt % of the sulfate additive. Batteries using such positive active material pastes exhibit greatly improved performance over batteries with conventional positive active material pastes.

Mold assembly caps used in fabricating infiltrated downhole tools

An example mold assembly system includes a mold assembly including a mold forming a bottom of the mold assembly, a funnel operatively coupled to the mold, and an infiltration chamber defined at least partially by the mold and the funnel, the infiltration chamber being used for forming an infiltrated downhole tool. A mold assembly cap is positionable on the mold assembly and including a sidewall extendable about an outer periphery of the mold assembly at least partially along a height of the mold assembly. The sidewall exhibits a horizontal cross-sectional shape that accommodates a shape of the mold assembly and the sidewall is made of a thermal material that promotes directional solidification of the infiltrated downhole tool during fabrication.
