Hybrid turbine blade for improved engine performance or architecture
A method is provided for casting an article such as a blade having an attachment root and an airfoil, the airfoil having a proximal end and a distal end. The method includes introducing a molten alloy into a mold. A composition of the introduced alloy is varied during the introduction so as to produce a compositional variation.
METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR DIE CASTING A HYBRID COMPONENT
A die casting system includes a die including at least one die component that defines a die cavity, a spar received within a portion of said die cavity, a shot tube in fluid communication with the die cavity, and a shot tube plunger moveable within the shot tube to communicate a molten metal into the die cavity to cast a hybrid component. The spar establishes an internal structure of the hybrid component, and one of the internal structures and an outer structure of said hybrid component is an equiaxed structure.
High strength, homogeneous copper-nickel-tin alloy and production process
A process for producing a high strength, homogeneous copper-nickel-tin alloy with high strength includes preparing a molten mixture of copper, nickel, and tin; pressure assist casting the molten mixture to form a casting; and thermally treating the casting. Novel combinations of properties can be attained for the alloy.
MACHINE FOR FORMING METAL BARS
A machine for forming metal bars, in particular for producing ingots made of precious metal such as gold, silver, precious alloys, as well as other pure metals or different alloys, in the form of solid metal powder, grits or swarf of various sizes, having an ingot mould and a cover for closing the ingot mould when filled, the ingot mould has a dimension in height such that the cover passes from a first position to a second position when the volume occupied by the mass of metal that fills the ingot mould reduces gradually up to one third of the initial solid volume. In the first position the cover rests on the metal that fills the ingot mold and remains raised with respect to an abutting edge of the ingot mould, in such a manner that the bottom of the cover compresses and thus uniformly compacts the powders, the grits or the swarf so that, during the melting step, in the second position, the cover lowers progressively as the metal melts, until it rests on the abutting edge of the ingot mold, thus hermetically closing the ingot mould.
Copper alloy with high strength and excellent processability in bending and process for producing copper alloy sheet
The present invention provides a CuFeP alloy which has a high strength, high conductivity and superior bending workability. The copper alloy comprises 0.01 to 1.0% Fe, 0.01 to 0.4% P, 0.1 to 1.0% Mg, and the remainder Cu and unavoidable impurities. The size of oxides and precipitates including Mg in the copper alloy is controlled so that the ratio of the amount of Mg measured by a specified measurement method in the extracted residue by a specified extracted residue method to the Mg content in said copper alloy is 60% or less, thus endowing the alloy with a high strength and superior bending workability.
Ti-included oxide dispersion strengthened copper alloy and method for manufacturing dispersed copper
The present invention relates to a Ti-included oxide dispersion strengthened copper alloy and a method for preparing oxide dispersion copper by an internal oxidation Ti-included copper alloy, which thus allows spheronization and refinement of the oxides, and reduction of distance between the oxides. According to the present invention, there is provided oxide dispersion copper having excellent hardness and tensile strength as well as electrical conductivity by performing spheronization and refinement for Ti-included oxide and thus further reducing the distance between oxides.
SHOT TUBE FOR DIE-CAST MACHINE
A shot tube includes an inner bore for delivering molten material into a die-cast mold. The shot tube has an outer peripheral surface with at least one surface for receiving a locking member to lock the shot tube into an aperture in a fixed mold portion and an alignment structure for properly aligning the shot tube in the fixed mold portion. An opening receives molten material into the inner bore.
Method and system for die casting a hybrid component
A method for die casting a hybrid component includes defining a cavity within a die element of a die and inserting a spar into the cavity. Molten metal is injected into the die element. The molten metal is solidified within the cavity to cast the hybrid component. The spar establishes an internal structure of the hybrid component. The spar includes a high melting temperature material that defines a first melting temperature greater than a second melting temperature of the molten metal.
METHOD OF FABRICATING AN INVESTMENT CASTING MOLD AND SLURRY THEREFOR
A method of investment casting includes casting a liquid nickel- or cobalt-based superalloy in an investment casting mold. The superalloy includes an yttrium alloying element that is subject to reactive loss during the casting. Loss of the yttrium is limited by using a zircon-containing facecoat on a refractory investment wall in the investment casting mold. The facecoat contacts the liquid nickel- or cobalt-based superalloy during the casting. Prior to the casting, a zircon-containing slurry is used to form the facecoat. After solidification of the nickel- or cobalt-based superalloy, the refractory investment wall is removed from the solidified superalloy.
