Additively manufactured casting articles for manufacturing gas turbine engine parts
A casting article according to another exemplary aspect of the present disclosure includes, among other things, a circuit forming portion including an interior channel and an outer shell body that surrounds the interior channel. An engineered failure feature is formed in the outer shell body and is configured to increase compressibility of the casting article during a casting process.
CONTROLLED NOZZLE COOLING (CNC) OF SAND CASTING
A process for the sand casting of metals and their alloys includes the steps of providing at least a mold equipped with a plurality of cooling nozzles, making a layer of coolant permeable materials covering the nozzles and maintaining the materials at desired temperatures, delivering a molten metal into the mold, supplying predetermined amount of coolant to each nozzles to contact the external surface of the casting at desired rate, time, and duration to achieve an acceptable level of progressive solidification from the distal end of the casting towards the riser until the casting has reached desired temperatures.
Illuminated and Modular Soft Tissue Retractor
A surgical retractor for illuminating a surgical field includes an ergonomic handle, a retractor blade coupled with the handle, a quick release mechanism, and an illuminator blade. The retractor blade is adapted to engage and retract tissue, and the quick release mechanism is adapted to couple the handle with the retractor blade. The illuminator blade acts as a waveguide to transmit light by total internal reflection. Light is extracted from the illuminator to illuminate the surgical field. The retractor blade is releasable from the handle without requiring uncoupling of the illuminator blade from the handle and also without requiring optical uncoupling of the illuminator blade from a light source. The retractor may also be adapted to evacuate smoke from the surgical field.
Dual investment technique for solid mold casting of reticulated metal foams
A method to manufacture reticulated metal foam via a dual investment solid mold, includes pre-investment of a precursor with a diluted pre-investment ceramic plaster then investing the encapsulated precursor with a ceramic plaster.
Systems, formulations, and methods for removal of ceramic cores from turbine blades after casting
A solution is provided and includes a strong base, a corrosion inhibitor, wherein the strong base is an alkali metal hydroxide, wherein the corrosion inhibitor is at least one of an organic acid having a-COOH functional group or an alkali metal salt of one of an organic acid having a-COOH functional group.

The retractor blade is releasable from the handle without requiring uncoupling of the illuminator blade from the handle and also without requiring optical uncoupling of the illuminator blade from a light source. The retractor may also be adapted to evacuate smoke from the surgical field.
A HYBRID COMPONENT WITH COOLING CHANNELS AND CORRESPONDING PROCESS
A process for forming a component is provided. The process includes providing a cooling channel flow definition at least partially about a core comprising a ceramic matrix composite material. A metal material is cast about the core and the cooling channel flow definition to form an outer metal shell. In addition, a cooling channel is formed from the cooling channel flow definition in the component.
ADDITIVELY MANUFACTURED CASTING CORE-SHELL MOLD WITH INTEGRATED FILTER AND CERAMIC SHELL
The present disclosure relates to a method of forming a cast component and a method of forming a casting mold. The method is performed by connecting at least one wax gate component to a ceramic core-shell mold. The ceramic core-shell mold includes at least a filter, first core portion, a first shell portion, and at least one first cavity between the core portion and the first shell portion. The core-shell mold may manufactured using an additive manufacturing process and may include an integrated ceramic filter. At least a portion of the ceramic core-shell mold and the wax gate component is coated with a second ceramic material. The wax gate component is then removed to form a second cavity in fluid communication with the first cavity.
ADDITIVELY MANUFACTURED CASTING CORE-SHELL HYBRID MOLD AND CERAMIC SHELL
The present disclosure generally relates to integrated core-shell investment casting molds that provide a filament structure corresponding to a cooling hole pattern in the surface of the turbine blade, stator vane, or shroud. The disclosure also relates to the forming of a ceramic coating on at least a portion of the shell of the core-shell casting mold.
