Modification Of Particles For Additive Manufacturing
Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) and Molecular Layer Deposition (MLD) provide precise and conformal coatings that are employed to modify the properties of powders for additive manufacturing (AM). We have surprisingly discovered that use of a limited number of ALD cycles can impart improved flowability. In various aspects, the coating may provide one or more advantages such as novel material properties, increased flowability, improved sintering, enhanced stability during storage, and prevention of premature sintering.
Temperature sensors
A temperature sensor can include a resistor, a first electrical contact at a first end of the resistor, a second electrical contact at a second end of the resistor, and a resistance measuring device. The resistor can be formed of a matrix of sintered elemental transition metal particles interlocked with a matrix of fused thermoplastic polymer particles. The resistance measuring device can be connected to the first electrical contact and the second electrical contact to measure a resistance of the resistor.
Methods for fabricating strain wave gear flexsplines using metal additive manufacturing
Methods for the fabrication of metal strain wave gear flexsplines using a specialized metal additive manufacturing technique are provided. The method allows the entire flexspline to be metal printed, including all the components: the output surface with mating features, the thin wall of the cup, and the teeth integral to the flexspline. The flexspline may be used directly upon removal from the building tray.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR CALIBRATION FEEDBACK FOR ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING
A camera assembly is employed in additive manufacturing to improve the fidelity of a printed object. The camera may scan the surface of a build plate of a 3D printer and an object as it is being printed to generate image data. The image data is processed to detect errors in the build plate or printed object. The printer compensates for the detected errors, which can including modifying the printer configuration and/or modifying the instructions for printing a given object. Using the updated configuration, subsequent objects may then be printed, under a corrected process, to produce an object with fidelity to an original object model.

A method for manufacturing a part by alloying a precious metal with boron, wherein: a quantity of precious metal reduced to powder form is provided; a quantity of a nano-structured micrometric boron powder is provided; the precious metal powder is mixed with the nano-structured micrometric boron powder to obtain a mixture; the mixture is compacted by applying a uniaxial pressure; the mixture is subjected to a spark plasma sintering or flash sintering treatment, or to a hot isostatic pressing (HIP) treatment, to obtain an ingot of a precious metal/boron alloy, and the ingot is machined to obtain the part, or the ingot is reduced to powder form by a micronisation treatment and the powder is treated to obtain the part. According to aspects of the embodiments, there is provided method and system of using a roller-based deposition process to place two or more powders at some level of precision to build a multi-material, functionally-graded part. Instead of formulating a liquid ink by dispersing the powder feedstocks (metal or ceramic) in some binder-solvent mixture, there is detailed the use of two different types of fluid deposited in a digital manner on the roller surface. The two different types of fluids create a “wetted pixel” that can then capture a specific powder type with an affinity only to that fluid. Alternatives such as electrostatics, electrophotography, and the like are also provided to be used exclusively or with fluids to create an affine pixel to a particular powder type.
System and method of additively manufacturing an object
A system for use in additively manufacturing an object. The system includes a powder bed configured for containment within a build chamber, wherein the powder bed is formed from a mixture of a build material and a bonding agent. The system also includes a heat source configured to selectively heat the powder bed to a temperature such that the build material is at least partially sintered together by the bonding agent. The heat source also selectively heats the powder bed to the temperature that maintains the build material in a solid state.
