Additive fabrication methods for 3D composite objects having preform fiber reinforcements embedded in a matrix material include providing local heat and mechanical energy to at least partially melt, impregnate and solidify the matrix material forming at least one reinforced composite layer of the object. Successive layers are added in accordance to a computer generated tool path to form a three dimensional object with useful features.

Protective mask by two material additive manufacturing, and related method

A protective mask for a part, the part including a plurality of openings in a surface thereof, is provided. The protective mask includes a mounting member at least partially within each of at least two of the plurality of openings. Each mounting member includes a water soluble material. A masking member couples the at least two mounting members. The masking member includes a non-water soluble material. Each mounting member includes a first plurality of integral layers of the water soluble material, and the masking member includes a second plurality of integral layers of the non-water soluble material. The protective mask can be made by a two material additive manufacturing system. A related method is also provided.

METHODS OF FABRICATING A 3D DEVICE USING ABLATION

A three-dimensional device is fabricated in a layer-by-layer approach using a support material. The support material is deposited in a liquid form on a surface, hardened by cooling or ultraviolet (UV) curing, and selectively ablated to create an area within which the desired structure of the device will be formed. Active material is deposited into this area, and the layer-by-layer process repeated until the three-dimensional device has been completed. Thereafter, any remaining support material is removed by water or other solvent.

Manufacturing method and forming apparatus of three-dimensional formed object

A manufacturing method of a three-dimensional formed object includes disposing a first forming material on a forming table to form a plurality of structures which are separated from each other, and disposing a second forming material for forming the three-dimensional formed object such that the three-dimensional formed object is supported by the plurality of structures in a state of being separated from the forming table.
