A unique and novel additive manufacturing route has been proposed to form a thermally stable in-situ metal matrix nano composite by interfacing reactive plasma in the selective laser melting process chamber. The proposed route gives very high compositional freedom, i.e, nitrides, carbides, oxides, suicides and other ceramics with different stoichiometries can be reinforced in nanoscale in any metallic matrix. Components with such a nanocomposite structure dispiay superior high temperature structural properties.

TOUGHENED TIAL-BASED ALLOY SHEET WITH PERIODICALLY MISALIGNED THROUGH-HOLE TITANIUM ALLOY LAYERS AND PREPARATION METHOD THEREOF

Some embodiments of the disclosure provide a toughened TiAl-based alloy sheet with periodically misaligned through-hole titanium alloy layers sequentially stacked together. A through structure is formed in the misaligned through-hole titanium alloy layer. Two openings of the through structure are respectively located on upper and lower surfaces of the titanium alloy layer. The misaligned opening position of the through structure is at a center position of a quadrangle formed by every four through holes in adjacent titanium alloy layers. The through structure is filled with a TiAl-based alloy. The TiAl-based alloy layers on adjacent sides of the titanium alloy layer are connected through the TiAl-based alloy in the through structure. The TiAl-based alloy layer is connected to the titanium alloy layer through a Ti.sub.3Al interface layer. The TiAl-based alloy and the titanium alloy in the through structure are connected through a Ti.sub.3Al interface layer.

An alloy article according to the invention has a predetermined chemical composition comprising: Co, Cr, Fe, Ni and Ti, each within a range of 5 atomic % or more and 35 atomic % or less; Mo within a range of more than 0 atomic % and less than 8 atomic %; an element with a larger atomic radius than the atomic radiuses of Co, Cr, Fe and Ni within a range of more than 0 atomic % and 4 atomic % or less; and a balance of inevitable impurities.

The method also includes forming a second portion of the article by three-dimensional printing of a plurality of second layers from a second powder material cut having a second average particle size corresponding to a second feature resolution less than the first feature resolution. The second portion includes at least one feature. The second layers have a second average layer thickness less than the first average layer thickness. A three-dimensional printing system and an article formed from a powder material by three-dimensional printing are also disclosed.

Extreme creep resistant nano-crystalline metallic materials

Novel metallic systems and methods for their fabrication provide an extreme creep-resistant nano-crystalline metallic material. The material comprises a matrix formed of a solvent metal with crystalline grains having diameters of no more than about 500 nm, and a plurality of dispersed metallic particles formed on the basis of a solute metal in the solvent metal matrix and having diameters of no more than about 200 nm. The particle density along the grain boundary of the matrix is as high as about 2 nm.sup.2 of grain boundary area per particle so as to substantially block grain boundary motion and rotation and limit creep at temperatures above 35% of the melting point of the material.
