Additive manufacturing of complex objects using refractory matrix materials
A method for the manufacture of a three-dimensional object using a refractory matrix material is provided. The method includes the additive manufacture of a green body from a powder-based refractory matrix material followed by densification via chemical vapor infiltration (CVI). The refractory matrix material can be a refractory ceramic (e.g., silicon carbide, zirconium carbide, or graphite) or a refractory metal (e.g., molybdenum or tungsten). In one embodiment, the matrix material is deposited according to a binder-jet printing process to produce a green body having a complex geometry. The CVI process increases its density, provides a hermetic seal, and yields an object with mechanical integrity. The residual binder content dissociates and is removed from the green body prior to the start of the CVI process as temperatures increase in the CVI reactor. The CVI process selective deposits a fully dense coating on all internal and external surfaces of the finished object.

A three-dimensional shaped article production method according to the invention is a method for producing a three-dimensional shaped article by stacking layers formed in a predetermined pattern, wherein a series of steps including a composition supply step of supplying a composition containing a plurality of particles to a predetermined part, and a bonding step of bonding the particles by irradiation with a laser light is performed repeatedly, and the composition supply step includes a step of forming a first region using a first composition containing first particles as the composition, and a step of forming a second region using a second composition containing second particles which are different from the first particles as the composition, and the bonding of the particles in the first region and the bonding of the particles in the second region are performed by irradiation with laser lights with a different spectrum.

A method for manufacturing a three-dimensional semi-finished product comprises the steps of applying a first raw material powder to a carrier, applying a second raw material powder to the carrier, selectively irradiating the first raw material powder applied to the carrier with electromagnetic radiation or particle radiation, in order to manufacture a workpiece produced from the first raw material powder on the carrier by a generative layer construction method, and selectively irradiating the second raw material powder applied to the carrier with electromagnetic radiation or particle radiation, in order to manufacture a support element produced from the second raw material powder on the carrier by a generative layer construction method, wherein the support element produced from the second raw material powder has a higher thermal conductivity than the workpiece produced from the first raw material powder and wherein the support element dissipates heat introduced during the irradiation of the first and the second raw material powder.
BROWN BODY INCLUDING A METAL NANOPARTICLE BINDER
According to examples, a brown body has from about 0.02 wt. % to about 10 wt. % of a metal nanoparticle binder, in which the metal nanoparticle binder is selectively located within an area of the brown body to impart a strength greater than about 1 kPa to the area.
HYDROTHERMAL-ASSISTED TRANSIENT JET FUSION ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING
Various embodiments of the present disclosure provide an additive manufacturing method. The method includes forming a first layer of a first ceramic material and forming a second layer of a second ceramic material. The method further includes contacting the first layer of the first ceramic material, the second layer of the second ceramic material, or both with a saturant. The method further includes heating the first layer of the first ceramic material, the second layer of the second ceramic material, or both to a temperature in a range of from about 50° C. to about 300° C. The method further includes applying pressure to the first layer of the first ceramic material, the second layer of the second ceramic material, or both. The pressure can be in a range of from about 10 kPa to about 800 MPa. The method further includes at least partially dissolving a portion of an external surface of a ceramic particle of the first layer of the first ceramic material, the second layer of the second ceramic material, or both. The method further includes fusing a portion of the dissolved portion of the external surface of the ceramic particle to from a product having a density in a range of from about 65% to about 100% relative to a corresponding fully densified product and optionally containing no organic binder.
FABRICATING METAL OR CERAMIC COMPONENTS USING 3D PRINTING WITH DISSOLVABLE SUPPORTS OF A DIFFERENT MATERIAL
Methods and systems are described for fabricating a component using 3D printing. A 3D printed piece is created including a body of the component, a support structure, and a first sacrificial interface region coupling the body of the component to the support structure. The body of the component is formed of a first metal or ceramic material and the first sacrificial interface region is formed at least partially of a second metal or ceramic material. The body of the component is then separated from the support structure by applying a chemical or electrochemical dissolution process to the 3D printed piece. Because the second metal or ceramic material is less resistant to the dissolution process than the first metal or ceramic material, the first sacrificial interface region at least partially dissolves, thereby separating the body of the metal component from the support structure, without dissolving the body of the component.
HYBRID-ADDITIVE GEAR FOR A WIND TURBINE GEARBOX
A method for manufacturing a planet gear or a sun gear of a gearbox of a wind turbine includes forming a base of the planet gear via at least one of casting or forging. The base of the planet gear includes an inner circumferential surface and an outer circumferential surface. Therefore, at least one of the inner circumferential surface or the outer circumferential surface of the planet gear includes a plurality of net or near-net gear teeth. The method also includes applying a coating material to at least a portion of the base of the gear and at least a portion of the plurality of gear teeth of the gear via an additive manufacturing process so as to increase a hardness of the portions of the base and the plurality of gear teeth that includes the coating material.

Method and Apparatus for In Situ Synthesis of SiC, SiC Ceramic Matrix Composites, and SiC Metal Matrix Composites During Additive Manufacturing
Methods and apparatuses for in situ synthesis of SiC, CMCs, and MMCs are disclosed, comprising: providing an apparatus having: an electromagnetic energy source; an autofocusing scanner; a powder system for SiC and one or more powders; a powder delivery system; a shielding gas comprising argon and/or nitrogen; and a computer coupled to and configured to control the energy source, scanner, powder system, and powder delivery system to deposit layers of the sample; programming the computer with specifications of the sample; using the computer to control electromagnetic radiation, mixing ratio, and powder deposition parameters based on the specifications of the sample; and using the autofocusing scanner to focus and scan the electromagnetic radiation onto the sample while the powders are concurrently deposited by the powder delivery system onto the sample to create a melting pool to deposit one or more layers onto the sample.
