20190070669 · 2019-03-07 ·

A tangential cutting insert for a turning tool is described, which comprises a first tangential cutting insert side and a second tangential cutting insert side, wherein one of the tangential cutting insert sides is assigned more than two cutting edges, and the cutting edges are arranged in a star shape about a tangential cutting insert center axis. The tangential cutting insert is produced completely from cubic crystalline boron nitride, polycrystalline cubic boron nitride, polycrystalline diamond, or ceramic. In addition, a cutting tool with such a tangential cutting insert is presented. A method for producing a tangential cutting insert is also explained.

The peripheral side surface is provided with raised parts changing in height in the end surface direction.

Triangular-shaped cutting insert with twelve cutting edges and tool holder therefor

A cutting insert includes a body having three vertices, an upper face, a lower face, and six planar flank faces perpendicular to and joining the upper and lower faces. A cutting edge is formed at an intersection between the upper and lower faces and each of the planar flank faces. A triangular-shaped island surrounds a central axis, A, of the cutting insert and is higher in elevation than the upper and lower faces. A tool holder includes a tool holder body having a generally triangular-shaped insert-receiving pocket with a triangular-shaped recess that is substantially identical in shape to the triangular-shaped island of the cutting insert that interacts with the island to properly locate and prevent rotation of the cutting insert when mounted in the tool holder.

A cutting tool has a holder and an indexable cutting insert secured therein. The holder has a head and a shank extending therefrom along a holder axis, the head having spaced apart lower and upper clamping portions located on opposite sides of a first plane containing the holder axis. The lower clamping portion has spaced apart first and second lower clamping surfaces located on opposite sides of a second plane perpendicular to the first plane, and the upper clamping portion has an upper clamping surface intersected by the second plane. The cutting insert has a peripheral surface with a plurality of circumferentially spaced cutting portions, and the second plane intersects the plurality of cutting portions. The upper clamping surface makes contact with a first abutment portion of the peripheral surface, and a second abutment portion of the peripheral surface makes contact with the first and second lower clamping surfaces.

A cutting tool assembly includes a cutting tool and an indexable cutting insert having an insert index axis. The cutting insert includes parallel insert first and second sides connected by an insert peripheral surface that extends peripherally around the cutting insert. At least one clamping hole opens out to one or both of the insert first and second sides, and at least a portion of the clamping hole is in a clamping region of the cutting insert. The insert peripheral surface includes cutting edges that are spaced-apart and extend from the insert first side to the insert second side. Along a width direction, which is perpendicular to the insert first and second sides, each of the cutting edges is wider than the cutting insert, at least at the cutting region of the cutting insert.

A four-way indexable plate-shaped cutting insert that is indexable about a central insert axis and a cutting tool. The cutting includes a base body, a first insert side surface, a second insert side surface opposite the first insert side surface, a peripheral insert surface that connects the first insert side surface and the second insert side surface, and four cutting arms. The peripheral insert surface of each cutting arm includes a rake surface, a relief surface facing in the opposite direction, and a cutting edge formed at an intersection of the rake surface and the relief surface. The first insert side surface includes a first portion that is farther away from an insert median plane than the another portion thereof. The first insert abutment portion defines a coolant groove that is recessed in the first insert abutment portion. The coolant groove opening out to the first arm side portion.

A cutting insert includes at least two peripheral cutting edges. An insert holder assembly includes an insert holder which include an insert pocket and an ejector chamber connected by a through hole. The insert holder assembly includes an ejector member located at least partially in the ejection chamber, and a compressible biasing member. In an inner position, the biasing member exerts a compressive force on the ejector member. When the cutting insert is releasably attached to the insert holder by a fastening member which is connected to the ejector member, to constitute a fastened position of a cutting tool, the insert holder assembly is in the inner position and the fastening member clamps the cutting insert so that the insert lower surface abuts the pocket base surface.
