CUTTING INSERT AND CUTTING TOOL
A cutting insert may include a base member. The base member may include a first surface, a second surface adjacent to the first surface, and a first cutting edge located in at least a part of a first ridge line which the first surface intersects with the second surface. The base member may include a hard phase containing a titanium carbonitride, and a binding phase containing at least one of cobalt and nickel. The hard phase may include a first hard phase observed on a higher angle side, and a second hard phase observed on a lower angle side in a comparison of (422) plane peak in an X-ray diffraction analysis. A compressive residual stress of the second hard phase in the second surface may be less than a compressive residual stress of the second hard phase in the first surface.
Cutting insert geometry
The invention relates to a cutting insert (1) for installation in carrier tools for machining workpieces, comprising a top side (2), a bottom side (3), and side surfaces (4) connecting the top side (2) and the bottom side (3), wherein a peripheral protective chamfer (5) having an upper edge (6) adjoining the top side (2) of the cutting insert (1) and having a lower edge (7) adjoining the side surfaces (4) is arranged at the transition from the top side (2) to the side surfaces (4), wherein the upper edge (6) forms cutting edges (9) and cutting corners (10) and, in the region of the cutting edges (9), the lower edge (7) transitions into a cutting-edge clearance angle surface (8) having an edge clearance angle of 3 to 11. For improved edge stability in drawn cuts, it is proposed that, in the region of the cutting corners (10), the lower edge (7) of the protective chamfer (5) transitions into a corner clearance angle surface (11) having an edge clearance angle of 3 to 5.
Cutting insert, cutting tool, and method for manufacturing machined product
A cutting insert according to one aspect has a flat plate shape including a first main surface having a polygonal shape, a second main surface located opposite to the first main surface, and an outer peripheral surface located between the first main surface and the second main surface. The cutting insert includes a cutting portion located in regions including at least a corner portion of the first main surface, and a main body portion located in a region other than the corner portion. A thickness of the main body portion is larger than a thickness of the cutting portions, and the main body portion includes a recessed portion or a protruding portion located in the outer peripheral surface thereof.
Cutting insert
A cutting insert including a body having three vertices, an upper face, a lower face, and flank faces joining the upper and lower faces. At least one cutting edge is formed at an intersection between the upper face and the flank faces. A generally triangular-shaped island surrounds a central axis of the cutting insert and is higher in elevation than at least one portion of the upper face.
Cutting Insert
Disclosed is a cutting insert having a generally polygonal primary body having a primary body base connected to an opposing and similarly-shaped body face through a plurality of primary flank portions extending there between. The cutting insert further includes at least one cutting protrusion extending away from at least one of the primary flank portions, and merging therewith. The cutting protrusion includes a rake face coplanar and extending away from the adjacent primary flank portions, and an edge portion extended towards a cutting flank portion. The cutting protrusion further includes a tip flat extending between a rake front from a protrusion tip towards a rake root portion, adjacent one of the primary flank portions.
Tetrahedron-shaped cutting insert, insert holder and cutting tool
A cutting tool includes a two-way indexable cutting insert retained in a tool holder by a clamping member. The cutting insert has a tetrahedral basic shape and includes two cutting edges at opposite ends of thereof. The insert holder includes a forwardly located mounting portion that includes three spaced apart mounting jaws which together define an insert receiving pocket having a pocket opening. The clamping member is attached to the insert holder body so that a clamping portion of the clamping member protrudes into the pocket opening. When the cutting insert is releasably attached to the insert holder in a fastened position of a cutting tool, the cutting insert is located in the insert receiving pocket and clampingly engaged therein by the clamping portion.
Cutting tool and triangular-shaped indexable cutting insert therefor
A cutting tool having a tool holder, cutting insert and clamping member. The tool holder includes an elongated supporting surface extending in a rearward-to-forward direction. The cutting insert has a central portion and three cutting portions, the central portion having two opposing side surfaces and three spaced apart locating surfaces defining a first imaginary triangle. The cutting insert is indexable about a central axis intersecting the two side surfaces. Each locating surface intersects two of three bisector planes containing the central axis and bisecting respective corners of the first imaginary triangle, and the cutting edge of each cutting portion is located entirely outside of the first imaginary triangle. In each index position the clamping member is located entirely rearward of a first vertical plane containing the central axis and perpendicular to the rearward-to-forward direction, and one of the locating surfaces is in clamping contact with the supporting surface.
Method for manufacturing cubic boron nitride cutting tool and cubic boron nitride cutting tool
A method for manufacturing a cubic boron nitride cutting tool including a base metal and sintered cubic boron nitride compact at a corner portion of the base metal, capable of improving the accuracy of the center height and reducing the angle of inclination or width of a negative rake face; and the cubic boron nitride cutting tool. The method includes grinding the compact by pressing it against an end face of a grindstone of a grinder to form flank and rake faces on the compact while the base metal of the cutting tool is held by a chuck of the grinder, so that the compact is substantially ground. The rake face is formed to be recessed from a top face of the base metal or only a portion of the compact that protrudes from a base-metal rake face is ground while the tool is continuously held by the chuck.
Cutting Insert
Disclosed is a cutting insert having a generally polygonal shaped primary body including a primary body base connected to an opposing, generally parallel and similarly-shaped body face through a plurality of flank portions extending there between. The Cutting insert further includes at least one cutting protrusion merging therewith and extending away there from the primary body. The at least one cutting protrusion includes a protrusion base which is generally coplanar and merges with the primary body base. The at least one cutting protrusion further includes a rake face in a direction opposite to the protrusion base, and a protruding flank extending there between the protrusion base and the rake face. The at least one cutting protrusion further includes a tip flat extending between a rake front at a protrusion tip towards a rake root portion, adjacent the primary body.
