HARD COATING FILM
A hard coating film that has formed therein an adhesion-reinforcing layer that comprises A layers that are composed of [Si(CN)] and B layers that are composed of [TiAl(CN)] or the like. The A layers and B layers are alternately layered upon a substrate upon a ground layer that comprises the B layer. For at least one pair of A layers that are adjacent with the B layer therebetween, the A layer that is farther from the ground layer is thicker than the A layer that is closer to the ground layer. The thickest A layer is 15 nm or more.
Systems and methods for forming an opening in a stack
One aspect of the disclosure relates to a cutting tool for forming a final opening in a stack that includes at least two layers and a pilot opening having a pilot-opening dimension and extending through at least one of the at least two layers. The cutting tool includes a shank. The cutting tool also includes a first portion including at least one of a first coating or the first coating and a second coating, wherein the first coating at least partially covers the first portion. The cutting tool also includes a second portion between the shank and the first portion, wherein the second portion includes the second coating, and wherein the second coating at least partially covers the second portion.
DRILLING TOOL AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING DRILL HOELS
A drilling tool for producing drill holes includes a tip and a shaft arranged opposite the tip in a direction of a longitudinal axis of the drilling tool. The drilling tool has at least one geometrically defined cutting edge in the tip area, and has an expanded diameter trailing the tip in a longitudinal direction from the tip. The drilling tool has a first area with a first diameter that precedes the expanded diameter, and a second area with a second diameter, larger than the first diameter, that trails the expanded diameter. The drilling tool is distinguished in that the expanded diameter and/or the second area is/are embodied such that chips are produced in the area of the expanded diameter and/or in the second area when a workpiece is machined, chips consistent with those produced when a workpiece is machined with a geometrically undefined cutting edge.
ROTARY CUTTING TOOL INCLUDING POLYCRYSTALLINE DIAMOND MATERIAL
A rotary cutting tool including a polycrystalline diamond material of the invention includes: a tool body rotated about an axis with a carbide substrate made of cemented carbide and a flute provided at a tip portion thereof; a PCD layer sintered integrally with the carbide substrate, provided on an inside face of the flute facing in a rotation direction; and a cutting edge provided on the PCD layer to have the inside face as a rake face, in which a margin portion continuous with a rear side of the flute in the rotation direction is formed on an outer periphery of the tip portion, the cutting edge is formed at a ridge portion of the rake face, and a thickness of the PCD layer is 1/3 to 1 times a width of the margin portion.
Machining tool
A machining tool that comprises a cutting part and a base that supports the cutting part. The base and/or the cutting part are made at least in part of a fiber-reinforced plastic. In some embodiments, the fiber-reinforced plastic is CFRP or CFC.
ROTARY CUTTING TOOL HAVING PCD CUTTING TIP
A rotary cutting tool with an elongate body disposed about a longitudinal axis, the elongate body including a helical flute and a polycrystalline-diamond cutting tip. The cutting tip comprises an inner portion having an inner point angle and an outer portion having an outer point angle different from the inner point angle.
Twist drill and method of drilling composite materials, use and method regrinding and manufacturing thereof
A twist drill for drilling composite materials includes a shank; a drill body; a drill tip having a cutting edge, a chisel edge, and a secondary chisel edge, wherein the secondary chisel angle of the drill tip is 145 to 165 and the point angle is 70 to 100; and a flute extending from the drill tip to the drill body. The flute has a constant helix, and the helix angle of the flute being selected from the range 45 to 55. A method of drilling a composite material comprising fibers uses the twist drill of the present embodiment. Suitably, the composite material is carbon fiber reinforced plastic or glass fiber reinforced plastic, and optionally being a laminate material such that the method comprises stack drilling. Embodiments achieve a combination of good hole quality, good tool life and good hole size spread.
DRILLING TOOL AND DEVICE FOR DRILLING WITH CRYOGENIC COOLING AND METHOD FOR DRILLING A STACK OF HETEROGENEOUS MATERIALS
A drill bit having an interior canal for liquid nitrogen to pass longitudinally through the body of the drill bit. The canal has, on the side of a cutting edge of the drill bit, at least one liquid nitrogen ejection duct that opens near the cutting edge which is formed by an insert made with polycrystalline diamond fixed to the body of the drill bit. A device for drilling a metal-composite stack includes the drill bit, a liquid nitrogen production unit and a distribution network to distribute the liquid nitrogen. The device drills through a metal-composite stack in a single pass of the drill bit. The liquid nitrogen at cryogenic temperature is conveyed close to the cutting edge, at least while the cutting edge is in contact with the metallic material.
DRILL AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURING DRILLED PRODUCT
According to one implementation, a drill that drills at least one of a composite material and a metal is provided. A web thickness at least at a tip of the drill is not less than 5% and less than 25% of at least one diameter of the drill. Further, according to one implementation, a method of manufacturing a drilled product is provided. The drilled product is manufactured by drilling a workpiece using the above-mentioned drill. The workpiece is made of the at least one of the composite material and the metal.
CUTTING TOOL HAVING AT LEAST PARTIALLY MOLDED BODY
A cutting tool for performing cutting operations on a workpiece when the cutting tool is rotated about a central axis by a machine tool, the cutting tool includes a generally cylindrical body disposed about the central axis. The generally cylindrical body includes a first end and an opposite second end. The cutting tool further includes a cutting portion and a mounting portion. The cutting portion is disposed at or about the first end of the generally cylindrical body and includes a number of cutting edges structured to engage the workpiece during cutting operations. The mounting portion is disposed at or about the opposite second end of the generally cylindrical body and is structured to be coupled to the machine tool. At least a portion of the generally cylindrical body comprises a molded portion formed via a molding process about the cutting portion in a manner that couples the cutting portion to the generally cylindrical body.
