A double-sided tangential cutting insert comprising a pair of cutting rake faces, a pair of major side surfaces and a pair of opposing minor side faces each having a twisted convex shape. Each of the cutting rake faces is defined between a pair of main cutting edges, a pair of full nose cutting edges, and a pair of opposing convex minor cutting edges. Each of the minor side faces is defined between one of the convex minor cutting edges at one of the rake faces and one of the convex minor cutting edges at the other one of the rake faces wherein, at each minor side face, a ridge line interconnects an apex of the convex minor edge at the one of the rake faces and an apex of the convex minor cutting edge at the other one of the rake faces. Other variants and embodiments are broadly contemplated herein.
Double-sided tangential cutting insert and cutting tool system using the same
A double-sided tangential cutting insert, as well as a tool holder system that carries a plurality of the double-sided tangential cutting inserts, that has a peripheral side shape, as viewed from one of said cutting rake faces, that includes a pair of generally identical opposing main cutting edges wherein each of the main cutting edge comprises a substantially straight main cutting edge portion and an adjoining convex main cutting edge portion. The convex main cutting edge portion is truncated by an adjacent convex minor side face so as to define a generally sharp edge and a point of truncation. The peripheral side shape further includes a pair of opposing full nose cutting edges with a nose cutting radius; and a pair of opposing convex minor cutting edges with a minor cutting edge radius. The minor cutting edge radius is at least about four times greater than the nose cutting radius.

A cutting insert for a tool for machining a workpiece, wherein the cutting insert has a 180 rotational symmetry about a bore axis extending perpendicularly and centrally through two opposing, identical base surfaces of the cutting insert, and has two identical parts which are connected along a center plane, wherein said center plane extends orthogonally to the bore axis and has the same distance from each of the two base surfaces, wherein each part has two identical mutually opposite main sides and two identical mutually opposite secondary sides, wherein each main side has a rectilinear main cutting edge extending parallel to the center plane, and each secondary side has a planar bearing surface extending orthogonally to the center plane, wherein the two main cutting edges of each part extend parallel to one another and transversely to the two main cutting edges of the respective other part, and wherein the two main cutting edges of each part extend parallel to the two bearing surfaces of the respective other part, wherein each main cutting edge transitions at its respective first end into a first segmental cutting edge which is arranged on a first protrusion provided on an adjacent secondary side of the respective part, and wherein each main cutting edge transitions into a second segmental cutting edge at its respective second end, opposite the first end, which is arranged on a second protrusion provided on the respective other adjacent secondary side of the respective part, wherein the first and the second protrusions each adjoin the bearing surface arranged on the respective same secondary side and project with respect to the respective bearing surface.

VERTICALLY-MOUNTED MILLING CUTTER INSERT AND MULTITOOTH MILLING CUTTER
The present invention discloses a vertically-mounted milling cutter insert and a multitooth milling cutter, wherein the vertically-mounted milling cutter insert comprises a insert base and a cutter tip unit, the insert base is set with a mounting hole for mounting the vertically-mounted milling cutter insert onto the milling cutter wheel, and the cutter tip unit is mounted on the insert base, and the cutter tip unit has a double-cutter tip structure. In the invention, the vertically-mounted milling cutter insert is positioned via the fitting between a bent-plane structure in the vertically-mounted milling cutter insert and a positioning structure in the milling cutter wheel, and the bent-plane structure will not be abraded in use. Because the bent-plane structure will not be abraded, reliable positioning may be guaranteed when two cutter tips are used.
CUTTING INSERT HAVING END SURFACE WITH SIDE EDGES CONNECTED BY AN INCLINED RAKE SURFACE AND CUTTING TOOL
A cutting insert has a first end surface and a second end surface which are opposed to each other. The first end surface has at least one apex and two side edges which extend so as to sandwich the apex. At least part of the two side edges serves as a cutting edge. The first end surface has a rake surface which is connected to the cutting edge. As viewed in a cross-section which intersects with the two side edges and which is orthogonal to the second end surface, the rake surface is inclined relative to the second end surface.
Cutting insert and milling cutter including same
A cutting insert mountable in an insert pocket of a milling cutter and capable of effectively absorbing a radially outward force during high speed machining and high ramp machining. The cutting insert has a top surface, a bottom surface, peripheral surfaces extending between the top and bottom surfaces, a mounting hole extending through the top surface and the bottom surface, a protrusion portion protruding from the bottom surface, and a pair of lower inclined abutment surfaces formed at opposite edges of the bottom surface. The lower inclined abutment surfaces are inclined in opposite directions toward a pair of opposing peripheral surfaces, outwardly and upwardly relative to the protrusion portion. The protrusion portion extends across the mounting hole and has a lateral surface facing radially outwardly of the milling cutter. The lateral surface selectively contacts or does not contact the insert pocket depending on a revolution speed of the milling cutter.
