QUICK-ADJUSTMENT FINISHING TOOL AND METHOD OF USE
20200331074 · 2020-10-22 · ·

This invention relates to finish machining, including a tool and the method of its use. Embodiments of this invention allow a cutting insert to be indexed quickly without loosening the insert retainer (screw or clamp) and not changing the depth-of-cut position of the tooth tip. The indexing motion is achieved by rotating a rotor, either manually or by way of a motor included on the tool. In some cases, between indexes, a small angle may be imparted to the rotor in order to adjust slightly the depth-of-cut position of the tooth tip in order to compensate for it being worn, or in other cases to precisely match the depth of cut of the tooth tips on multiple cutting teeth. The method involves setting up the path the tool will follow, then setting the feed per finishing tooth to be unconventionally large relative to the maximum depth of cut along the path. Using a round cutting insert, in particular a tangentially-mounted one or one that exhibits comparable curved edge profile, provides a large tooth-tip radius of curvature which in turn results in a good/smooth surface finish in spite of the unconventionally high feed per finishing tooth.

DISPOSABLE CUTTING INSERT LOCKING STRUCTURE

A disposable cutting insert locking structure includes a shank and a disposable cutting insert. An insert seat is disposed at a front end of the shank. The insert seat has a positioning portion. The positioning portion has a triangular shape. The positioning portion is provided with a screw hole. The disposable cutting insert has a bottom. The bottom is formed with a positioning recess. A through hole is defined in the positioning recess for a screw to be inserted from a top of the disposable cutting insert and screwed to the insert seat.

COMPACT ROTARY SEAL

Provided is a milling/cutting tool including: a tool main unit that is rotated about an axis; and a plurality of tips that are disposed at one end surface of the tool main unit with spacings therebetween in a circumferential direction about the axis of the tool main unit, wherein the individual tips are disposed so that turning rake surfaces thereof are inclined in the axial directions.

Round double-sided cutting insert having a peripheral surface provided with protruding indexing latches, insert holder therefor and cutting tool
10646927 · 2020-05-12 · ·

A round double-sided cutting insert includes an insert peripheral surface that includes a plurality of angularly spaced apart indexing latches protruding therefrom and a plurality of cylindrical insert side abutment surfaces that circumferentially alternate with the plurality of indexing latches. An insert holder has a pocket peripheral surface which includes at least one indexing gap and a plurality of pocket side abutment surfaces that circumferentially alternate with the at least one indexing gap. When the cutting insert is releasably attached to the insert holder, to constitute a fastened position of a cutting tool, each of the plurality of pocket side abutment surfaces abuts a respective insert side abutment surface and each indexing gap has a respective indexing latch located therein.

Rotary cutting insert and support device

This invention relates to cutting tools used to machine materials to produce new surfaces and chips of removed material. Embodiments of this invention allow round rotating cutting inserts to be used in a more economical way, with improved accuracy, with improved sealing, and with greater ease of use. The rotary support device and cutting inserts may be used in either radial or tangential mounting types of cutters. It also provides a built-in, fully sealed means of fine adjustment of the cutting insert that is useful in some applications.

Circular Cutting Tools With Polycrystalline Diamond Composite (PDC) Cutting Bits
20240075542 · 2024-03-07 ·

A cutting tool has a circular core with a plurality of bit holder pockets arranged around its periphery. Bit holders are positioned within the bit holder pockets and held in place by fastening wedges, which are in turn threadably engaged with wedge anchors. A cutting bit, which may be a polycrystalline diamond composite (PDC) cutting bit, is mounted on each bit holder. Removal of the fastening wedges permits easy removal and placement of the bit holders with attached bits.

Round cutting insert for a milling tool
11945039 · 2024-04-02 · ·

A round cutting insert for a milling tool having a center axis and a neutral plane extending perpendicularly thereto. The round cutting insert includes a circumferential side surface surrounding the center axis between upper and lower round main surfaces. An upper cutting edge is formed along the intersection of the upper round main surface and the side surface. A plurality of elongated support grooves are arranged in the side surface. Each elongated support groove has a bottom surface extending in a lengthwise direction with opposite flank surfaces converging toward the bottom surface and extending in parallel with the lengthwise direction of the elongated support groove. The lengthwise direction of each elongated support groove forms an acute angle with the neutral plane as seen in a side view. At least one of the opposite flank surfaces of each elongated support groove is configured as a side support surface.

INDEXABLE CUTTING INSERT FOR A MILLING TOOL
20190344363 · 2019-11-14 ·

An indexable and double-sided round cutting insert includes an upper and lower side. A center axis extends between the upper and lower side and a median plane extends perpendicular to the center axis and is situated halfway between the upper and lower side. A side surface has an upper and lower positive clearance surface at an upper positive clearance angle with respect to an upper cutting edge and a lower positive clearance angle with respect to a lower cutting edge. A plurality of protrusions extends along the side surface and protrude in a radial direction perpendicular to the center axis. Each protrusion includes an outer surface, which along the center axis, extends such that a first radial distance from the center axis to the outer surface in the median plane is at least equal to or greater than a second radial distance from the center axis to the outer surface.

Cutting insert and pocket with uninterrupted and continuous seating surface perimeter

A round cutting insert has a seating surface with a plurality of projections formed on the seating surface proximate a central opening. The projections do not extend to an outer perimeter of the seating surface such that the outer perimeter is continuous and uninterrupted a full 360 degrees. An insert-receiving pocket includes a seating surface with a plurality of dimples for receiving the plurality of projections to prevent rotation of the cutting insert when mounted in the insert-receiving pocket. The plurality of dimples do not extend to an outer perimeter of the seating surface such that the outer perimeter is continuous and uninterrupted a full 360 degrees, thereby maximizing contact between the cutting insert and the pocket.
