A portion (6p) of the curvilinear part (61) located lowermost is close to one corner cutting edge (5b) in the side view.
Single-sided four-way indexable positive cutting insert and insert mill therefor
A single-sided four-way indexable cutting insert includes a positive basic shape, a rake surface, a peripheral surface including four side abutment surfaces, a base bearing surface and a screw hole connecting the rake and base bearing surfaces. The insert has an imaginary square frustum which defines a square base containing the cutting insert's base bearing surface, and further defines four isosceles trapezoid side surfaces respectively containing the cutting insert's four side abutment surfaces. A material volume V.sub.F of the cutting insert and a void volume V.sub.S of the insert fulfill the condition V.sub.S/V.sub.F0.25.
Square-shaped cutting insert having curved secondary and corner cutting edges, and rotary cutting tool
An indexable cutting insert has upper and lower surfaces with a peripheral surface extending therebetween and having four side surfaces alternating with four corner surfaces. The side and corner surfaces intersect the upper surface to form side and corner cutting edges, respectively. Each side cutting edge includes a primary cutting edge adjoining one of the corner cutting edges at a first endpoint and a secondary cutting edge adjoining another one of the corner cutting edges at a second endpoint. In a top view, the four primary cutting edges define an imaginary first square, each primary cutting edge is tangential to its adjoining corner cutting edge, and each secondary cutting edge is curved and entirely located in one of four imaginary quadrants. The insert is removably secured in a rotary cutting tool such that one of the secondary cutting edges contains the axially forwardmost point of the insert's upper peripheral edge.
Cutting insert for a milling cutter and milling cutter
A cutting insert (20) for a milling cutter (10) is described, wherein the cutting insert (20) comprises a first main surface (22) for abutment against a stop surface (24) oriented substantially perpendicular to the direction of rotation of the milling cutter (10), a second main surface (26) which is opposite to the first main surface (22), which comprises the cutting surface, and a lateral surface (28) which connects the first main surface (22) with the second main surface (26) and which comprises the free surface. The lateral surface (28) has at least one clamping section (38) by which the cutting insert (20) is clamped in a recess (18) in a tool body (12) by means of a clamping element (40), in particular wherein the cutting insert (20) is a turning cutting insert. Furthermore, a milling cutter (10) is described.
INSERT AND CUTTING TOOL
An insert may include a base member and a resin layer located on the base member. The base member may include a first surface, a second surface, and a cutting edge. The first surface includes a rake surface region. The second surface may be adjacent to the first surface and includes a flank surface region. The cutting edge may be located in at least a part of a ridge line at which the first surface intersects with the second surface. The resin layer may not be located on the second surface but may be located on the first surface.
