The invention relates to a cutting insert having a polygonal upper side. Cutting edges, which are alternately configured as roughing cutting edges and finishing cutting edges, are provided at the edges of the upper side. The finishing cutting edges define an incircle (K1) having a diameter that is enlarged in comparison to a nominal size of the cutting insert, and the roughing cutting edges define an incircle (K2) having a diameter that is reduced in comparison to the nominal size of the cutting insert. A cutting insert has a cutting edge formed on part of an intersecting ridge line portion of an upper face or a lower face and a side face. The cutting edge includes a major cutting edge, a minor cutting edge, and a connecting cutting edge that connects the major cutting edge and the minor cutting edge. A minor cutting edge flank that is part of the side face and that corresponds to the minor cutting edge includes a first minor cutting edge flank that connects to the minor cutting edge and that has a clearance angle of 0°, and a second minor cutting edge flank that connects to the first minor cutting edge flank and that has a clearance angle of a negative value. A connecting cutting edge flank that is part of the side face and that corresponds to the connecting cutting edge includes a first connecting cutting edge flank that connects to the connecting cutting edge and that has a clearance angle of 0° or greater, and a second connecting cutting edge flank that connects to the first connecting cutting edge flank and has a clearance angle that is greater than the clearance angle of the first connecting cutting edge flank.

A rotatable bit cartridge that can be inserted and removed from permanently mounted cutter bodies, bit holders, and/or picks and are used until replacement of the cutter body, bit holder, and/or pick is required. The rotatable bit cartridge may include a forward end with a brazed diamond coated, layered, and/or diamond table bit tip insert or a brazed tungsten carbide bit tip insert. The rotatable bit includes a body that includes a generally cylindrical and/or a tapered first bore extending axially inwardly from a forward end of the body and a bit tip insert comprising a tip and a base subjacent the tip, a portion of the base adjacent a distal end of the bit tip insert disposed within the first bore of the body.

A cutting insert includes: an upper face including a virtual reference surface and an upper inclined surface extending to be inclined upward from the virtual reference surface; a lower face disposed below the upper face and including a lower inclined surface extending to be inclined with respect to the virtual reference surface; and a plurality of side faces connecting the upper face and the lower face. An insert bore is formed to penetrate through the upper face and the lower face along a central axis perpendicular to the virtual reference surface. A major cutting edge is formed at an edge at which the upper inclined surface meets any one side face among the plurality of side faces. A first angle between the side face, on which the major cutting edge is formed, and the upper inclined surface is greater than a second angle between the central axis and the lower inclined surface.

A trigonal cutting insert for a shoulder milling tool includes an upper side, an opposite lower side and a peripheral side surface. A plurality of indexable cutting edges extend along corners of the cutting insert, each cutting edge having a main cutting edge, a corner cutting edge, and a surface-wiping secondary cutting edge. The upper side includes a recessed central surface, and a plurality of positively inclined rake surfaces having a main rake surface portion, a corner rake surface portion, and a secondary rake surface portion. A concave indentation is formed in the corner rake surface portion and in at least an initial part of the main rake surface portion adjacent to the corner rake surface portion, wherein the concave indentation has an elongated shape.
