Cutting insert and milling cutter including same
09682433 · 2017-06-20 · ·

A cutting insert mountable in an insert pocket of a milling cutter and capable of effectively absorbing a radially outward force during high speed machining and high ramp machining. The cutting insert has a top surface, a bottom surface, peripheral surfaces extending between the top and bottom surfaces, a mounting hole extending through the top surface and the bottom surface, a protrusion portion protruding from the bottom surface, and a pair of lower inclined abutment surfaces formed at opposite edges of the bottom surface. The lower inclined abutment surfaces are inclined in opposite directions toward a pair of opposing peripheral surfaces, outwardly and upwardly relative to the protrusion portion. The protrusion portion extends across the mounting hole and has a lateral surface facing radially outwardly of the milling cutter. The lateral surface selectively contacts or does not contact the insert pocket depending on a revolution speed of the milling cutter.

Cutting tool with cooling mechanism and a cutting insert and tool holder therefor

A cutting element includes a cutting portion and a cooling portion. The cutting portion has a rake surface, a relief surface and a cutting edge defined at the intersection between the rake surface and the relief surface. The cooling portion has an operative surface and a cooling nozzle integrally formed therewith. The nozzle is spaced from the cutting edge and having a cooling aperture directed at the cutting edge at an acute angle with respect to the rake surface. The operative surface is one of the rake surface and a surface of the cutting element other than the rake surface, disposed at a location more remote from the cutting edge than the rake surface, so that the rake surface is disposed between the cutting edge and the cooling aperture.

Cutting tool having an anti-slip arrangement
09573204 · 2017-02-21 · ·

A cutting tool and a cutting insert, each of which including a base surface and an anti-slip arrangement adjacent thereto. Each anti-slip arrangement includes an actuator surface and non-parallel first and second abutment surfaces, and the actuator surface of the cutting tool is a surface of a clamp of the cutting tool. The cutting insert is mounted on the cutting tool via engagement of the base surfaces thereof and the clamp is operable to bias the actuator surfaces against each other and thereby force the first and second abutment surfaces against each other, for preventing slippage of the cutting insert along the tool's base surface.

CUTTING TOOL AND TOOL HOLDER FOR A ROTARY CUTTING DEVICE

The present disclosure relates to a cutting tool system comprising a tool holder and a cutting tool. The tool holder includes a base for mounting onto a rotary drum or disc and a body for removably coupling to the cutting tool. The cutting tool is for size-reducing a material and has a first side and a second side. The cutting tool includes a plurality of cutting edges that are selectively moveable into and out of a cutting path of the rotary drum or disc. The first and second sides each have at least one cutting edge, such that each of the first and second sides are configured to be a leading side of the cutting tool during use. This allows the cutting tool to be rotated and/or reversed, such that a single cutting tool provides several cutting edges and increases the wear or erosion life thereof.

Cutting insert and indexable cutting tool

A cutting insert includes an insert body having a polygonal plate shape. Rake faces are formed on polygonal surfaces of the insert body, and flank faces are formed on lateral faces of the insert body arranged around the polygonal surfaces. Main cutting edges are formed on side ridges of the polygonal surfaces at intersecting ridgelines between the rake faces and the flank faces. Each main cutting edge extends between two corners adjacent to each other in a circumferential direction of the polygonal surface among corners of the polygonal surface. When seen from a direction opposing the rake face, one end portion of the main cutting edge that stretches to one corner of the two corners has a convexly curved shape, and the other end portion of the main cutting edge that stretches to the other corner of the two corners has a concavely curved shape.

Cutting tool comprising toolholder and round cutting insert and method for repositioning the round cutting insert in a pocket of the toolholder

A cutting tool including a toolholder and a round cutting insert for mounting on a pocket floor of the toolholder. The toolholder includes the toolholder pocket floor having a bore and a plurality of grooves in the pocket floor arranged radially about the bore, wherein adjacent grooves are radially offset by a groove offset angle, x. The round cutting insert includes an upper surface having a cutting edge, a lower surface opposite the upper surface, an exterior side surface between the upper surface and the lower surface, an interior side surface defining an aperture extending from the upper surface to the lower surface, and a plurality of lugs arranged radially about the aperture. In an alternate embodiment, the cutting tool includes an anti-rotation disc with a plurality of grooves instead of the toolholder pocket floor.
