Milling insert and a milling tool

A milling insert suitable for shoulder milling includes a side surface extending between an upper and lower side and a cutting edge having a primary and a secondary cutting edge portion. The side surface includes an axial support surface opposite of the secondary cutting edge portion. The lower side includes a locking groove extending longitudinally, and a lower contact region formed to bear on a fastening member. The upper side has an upper contact region arranged to bear on a top support member of a tool in which the milling insert is mountable. A milling tool is provided with a top support member for bearing on the upper contact region of the milling insert, a locking ridge for locking with the locking groove, and an axial contact surface for supporting the axial support surface. A fastening member presses the milling insert against the top support member and the locking ridge.

Double-sided, indexable cutting insert with ramping capability and cutting tool therefor

A double-sided, indexable cutting insert for a milling cutter includes a first surface, a second surface, and side surfaces. Major cutting edges are defined at an intersection between the first and second surfaces and side surfaces. Minor cutting edges and ramping cutting edges are defined at the intersection between the first and second surfaces and side surfaces. The cutting insert is mounted in a milling cutter having a bottom seating surface formed at an angle with respect to a central, rotational axis of the milling cutter, which provides superior performance for both milling and ramping cutting operations.

CUTTING INSERT AND CUTTING TOOL EQUIPPED THEREWITH

The technical objective of the present invention is to provide a cutting insert that has an improved fastening property with a cutting tool, thereby preventing reduction of the service life. To this end, the cutting insert according to the present invention has three corners along the circumference thereof; an upper main cutting edge, which is formed on the edge between the upper surface and the first side surface, and an upper sub cutting edge, which is formed on the edge between the upper surface and the second side surface, are continuously disposed between respective corners; the lower surface has the same shape as that of the upper surface; and the angle defined between the upper main cutting edge and the upper sub cutting edge, which are placed on both sides with reference to each corner, is larger than or equal to 85? and is smaller than 90?.

A milling insert for shoulder milling having s a positive basic shape and includes an upper side having a rake surface, a lower side including a planar bottom surface, a side surface extending around the periphery of the milling insert, and a cutting edge formed between the side surface and the rake surface. The cutting edge has at least a major cutting edge portion, a corner radius cutting edge portion, a ramping cutting edge portion, and a surface wiping cutting edge portion. The side surface includes an upper set of primary clearance surfaces and a lower set of secondary clearance surfaces having a plurality of planar secondary clearance surfaces, wherein the upper set of primary clearance surfaces forms an overhang protruding with respect to the secondary clearance surfaces and extending around the entire upper periphery of the milling insert.

Ball-end mill and insert

A ball-end mill includes arcuate cutting edges each extending from a tip end to a peripherally outermost point along a S shape curve when viewed from the front side, spirally-shaped, peripheral cutting edges each smoothly connected to each arcuate cutting edge, and a convex rake face of each arcuate cutting edge protruding forward in a rotation direction. Each arcuate cutting edge has a radial rake angle satisfying <, where is a radial rake angle at a radial angle of 5, is a radial rake angle at a radial angle of 90, and is a radial rake angle at a rotationally most projecting point of the arcuate cutting edge. The radial rake angle has the maximum value at a radial angle in a range of 12-40 and continuously decreases in a range from the rotationally most projecting point to the peripherally outermost point.

A polygonal cutting has opposing first and second end surfaces connected by a side surface, and a plurality of cutting edges formed between the end surfaces and the side surface. Each cutting edge is formed at corner and includes a corner cutting edge and a major cutting edge connected to the corner cutting edge. A rake surface formed along the cutting edge on first the end surface is inclined toward the second end surface. In a side view of the cutting insert, the major cutting edge includes an inclined part which is inclined so as to approach the second end surface from the corner cutting edge. A portion of the rake surface along the inclined part is formed such that an angle of inclination toward the second end surface increases toward the corner in a direction along the intersecting edge between the first end surface and the side surface.
